Hi everyone! I love all of you tzadikim who are on this site. It gives me so much chizuk.
I have an interesting question. I have a business that would benefit very much from advertising on social media especially Instagram. I am a bit torn apart because I spoke to my Rov about it and he told me not to do it, However he said that he doesn't really know much about instagram. Any business owner that I spoke to says that it's the best kind of advertising especially for my kind of business, and that every single store is doing it now and that it's okay to do because that's the way it's done today.
I feel that I'm ready to skip it I just don't want to feel like I'm being a frumie or a goodie goodie when there's really no reason not to.

I'd love to hear people's comments about it

The fact that you have a Rav is tremendous. How many guys truck on their own private dirt roads without guidance...

Social media. Is it something like Twitter? Then I'd stay away from such. With the thumbnail pictures of users, and crude language, it would not be a pleasant recipe for me

i personally would go back to the rav and present what i found. if i trusted him with the shaila, i would not go keneged him because some guys on the internet told me to (even though they are my bff's in the world - except maybe mom). if he hears, he hears. if he hears that he doesn't hear, he may tell you to go to someone else who might hear. and if he does not hear, it is (in my opinion) out of your required hishtadlus haparnassa to do it anyway. having a rav means having a daas torah, and i would not tread on that. parnassa is from hashem. just one man's thoughts because you asked.

Can your wife do the advertsing on instagarm? (I don't recall if you are married or not but assuming yes)

I don't think I would want my wife to be exposed to social media either. I believe the Steipler says that it's just as ossur for women to view inappropriate materials as men. (I'm assuming he's differentiating between the viewing and what might be the next step after viewing).

Aside from that, your wife carries your children in utero, possibly nurses them, and then is your partner in raising them, normally spends more time with them than you do, so I'd like her to be as unaffiliated as possible with social media. Actually, sometimes I think that as men we are better equipped to recognize and stay away from potential danger. Just my 2 cents.

i think the question comes down to knowing urself. if it will be a big trigger then i would advise not ands wait until you get into a healthier frame of mind. also if u asked ur rav why are u asking us?

Tough call. If you're comfortable with the the Rav tell him your concern. Otherwise go to a different Rav who you know to be more up todate, and tell him you asked the first Rav.
