FAQ's & Links
- How many people is GYE helping?
Right now, GuardYourEyes has over 30,000 members, and every day, 5 to 10 new frum yidden reach out to GuardYourEyes for help. We have websites in English, Hebrew, Yiddish, French and Spanish. Rav Elya Brudny told us that if we don’t have at least 100,000 members, we’re not doing justice to this battle!
- How does GYE help people?
GuardYourEyes uses a wide range of tools (see this video) ranging from daily chizuk email and video blasts, forums, chat-rooms, phone conferences and partner programs, all the way through live 12-Step groups and therapy referrals. So whether someone has just started slipping or whether they have a full blown addiction, our progressive system of tools and support cover all levels of this struggle.
- Why does GYE need money?
Guardyoureyes has an annual budget of under a million dollars but since everything we offer is free, we rely on the public’s support to continue our vital work. We make a campaign once a year during the high-holidays to try and raise most of our yearly budget.
We have many volunteers, but we maintain a staff of 3 to 4 full time employees, as well as a few part-time staff, like the hotline operators and the women who run the "Spouses" division. We also pay for web-development and advertising, and we’d like to increase our advertising budget three-fold to reach everyone who needs help. We also need to hire more support staff to be able to offer more personal support to those who call the hotline or who sign up and request a call-back for consultation.
- What are the plans for the coming year?
We’ve begun the process to take our operation to a whole new level. See this PDF. We plan to redo our platform to give people the best help possible and be super-effective. The only way to be able to help 100,000 people is to have a sophisticated, automated, and interactive system, with cutting edge tools based on the latest scientific research.
In the past year, we researched all the different programs on habit-change and science based intervention models that have proven success rates. We studied techniques on how to help people set goals, how to manage urges, stay motivated, and track their progress.
We know how to do it, we just need the money and resources to make these sophisticated tools available in the most user-friendly and automated manner possible, so we really can help 100,000 people seamlessly.
We also want to increase our advertising budget 3-fold so we can reach every Jew who is struggling. This year we plan on hiring a social media manager to get our material and videos onto Facebook, Instagram, Youtube channels, and expand our Whatsapp groups.
- Why the urgency?
We’re at a historic time, as Rav Yosef Elefant told us, “GuardYourEyes should be at the forefront of Klal Yisrael today”, and he said, “You only have two tracks, either you’ll become major big or you’ll stay small and keep helping those who knock on your door. There’s really nothing in between”.
So it’s really up to Klal Yisrael to make this happen. If GYE has the resources, in the next 3 years 100,000 people can be helped! During the Holocaust, askanim were bribing Nazi officials to save lives. Here too, every dollar can save another person’s life, his Yiddishkeit and his marriage… All the Gedolim are telling us we must grow. This is perhaps the biggest challenge of our generation and we have to do this, for our children and for their children, until Moshiach comes.
