B"H doing well.  I really try to be busy with good things and not have too much down time.  Summertime can be hard for shmiras aynayim, but one thing that helps me is that even if I look I reeeealy try not to fantasize about it, and B"H I am usually successful.  It makes a huge difference. Hanging on to something I saw is more destructive than seeing it in the first place.

I came across this mishna recently at the end of Makkos:

 רבי שמעון ברבי אומר, והרי הוא אומר "רק חזק, לבלתי אכול הדם . . ." (דברים יב,כג); ומה אם הדם שנפשו של אדם חתה ממנו, הפורש ממנו מקבל שכר--גזל ועריות שנפשו של אדם מתאווה להן ומחמדתן, הפורש מהן על אחת כמה וכמה שיזכה לו, ולדורותיו ולדורות דורותיו, עד סוף כל הדורות.

  [טז] רבי חנניה בן עקשיה אומר, רצה הקדוש ברוך הוא לזכות את ישראל; לפיכך הרבה להן תורה ומצוות, שנאמר "ה' חפץ, למען צדקו; יגדיל תורה, ויאדיר" (ישעיהו מב,כא).


I also included the next mishna, the famous mishna of חנניה בן עקשיה.  Remember,  Hashem does not want to torture us.  He wants to be מזכה us.  These are דברים פשוטים, but we often forget them.  I know that I do.

I'm reading a book called "Irresistable".  It is excellent and discusses behavioral addictions.  I highly recommend it.

I know I haven't been around much lately, but I felt the need to post today.  Friday was my official sobriety date, and I have been free from porn and masturbation for 9 years.  I'm truly humbled and thankful.  I never thought it was possible.  Thanks to GYE, a very supportive and understanding wife, and lots of help from GYE in various forms.  Especially with the help of Dov and his phone calls, and the friends I have made here.

My life has improved dramatically over the last 9 years and I am deeply grateful for that.

I have really been out of the GYE loop, but B"H I am doing well.  This past Shabbos marked 10 years of being sober.  That is a sobering thought .  I am truly a different person than I was.  Life is soooo much better.  Not hiding, faking...  It is really a different world.   A world I didn't know could exist.  B"H things are really better than ever.  That is not to say I don't have nisyonos in shmiras aynayim.  That is not to say that I always pass.  But, in general I'm doing well.  I'm able to be home alone without being overwhelmed with a desire to act out.  I'm not nervous to be home alone.  I haven't crossed the red lines that define my sobriety.

I really owe a lot to GYE, and to all the wonderful people on this forum that helped me get to where I am today.  Especially Dov.  His phone call and his participation in this forum was probably the single biggest influence to help me become the person that I am today.

There was a time that I couldn't imagine living sober.  Now I can't imaging living otherwise.  It is a nervous, tense, miserable existence that I don't ever want to return to.

I thank the RBS"O for bringing me to this day and for helping me every step of the way.
