Something is definitely going on. I'm sometimes MILD mannered but I don't like when someone starts up with MILD mannered Markz who sometimes mildly says things that others mildly want to say. 

Reocvery can take you out of real life, acting out can take you out of real life, so can money, food, learning, and almost anything else. 
I think the doctrine of recovery vs dry drunk, which is certainly well established and good practice, isn't necessarily a core value that someone has to subscribe to. While I personally do, if someone stops acting out and lusting but is still a dry drunk bc he hasn't really recovered and hasn't found real sobriety, I think he's certainly still tapping in to some of the goals of GYE. And much better that than drinking or acting out more and strengthening his problems.

So for me in MY experience I've never found it helpful to objectively say that someone isn't really living or recovered if they are still wasting time with something else. That's the world we live in, and of course it would be better not to, but let's not be absolutist about recovery when there are plenty of people here that are struggling not to act out.

So if you're struggling not to act out and you're spending too much time here and that helps you, that's a great start. And maybe when one stops acting out then they can pursue real sobriety. 

Shteebs. I agree and that was what I was asking. nintendoGYE can shter someone, but help others. It's  a line everyone has to find on their own. But definitely there is a line there... Somewhere

Sure i spend plenty of time on GYE that could have been productive. But i would waste at least as much time on worse things if i wasn't here.

Something occurred to me over shabbos. The 12 steps have nothing to do with punishment or reward. Schar v'onesh is not within the steps (unless you include it in the God of your understanding). And it's the most effective pathway toward recovery

Although, see the gye handbook, where it says that although yiras shamayim may not STOP you from acting out, it CAN PUSH you to put in the grueling work necessary for recovery, i.e. 12 steps or whatever other recovery steps you are taking.
