I have been on the forum for a few months and over time have learned some things about using the forum.  I have seen newbies join with some of the same questions like how to add an avatar, use smileys, or post links.

There are some instructions here somewhere (if you can find them), but I thought this might be a good place to share what we've learned about using the forum.  Experience is the best teacher.

People can use this thread to share what works for them or to ask for help from more experienced members.

Here is trick 1:

How do I get a link to a specific post?
It's actaully pretty simple.  I'll post the abridged version so I don't scare you off.  Then, I'll give more detail in case you still don't quite get it.

Short Version:
1) Click "Quote" (next to the post)
2) Click "Preview" (button)
3) Click the link above the preview "Quote from: ..."
4) Copy the link from the address bar, and paste it wherever you like.

Here's the detailed version:
-  First, find the post.
-  Click the "Quote" link for that post (the post will be loaded into a text area)
-  There will be a "Post" and "Preview" button below the post
-  Click the "Preview" button (if in "Quick Reply" mode, this will put you in the regular reply mode where you have access to all the formatting and smiley stuff)
-  Now, you will see a preview of the post.  above it, it will say something like Quote from: obormottel on November 05, 2011, 11:51:08 PM
-  Click that link, and it will take you to the post.
-  Now the address bar of your browser has the link to get to that post directly.
-  Just copy the link and use it however you like.

It may seem like a lot of steps, but once you get used to it, it's actually quite simple.  I use the same thing when searching through someone's posts using the "show posts" link in their profile.

Baby steps.
If the road is pulling you down, it's a sign that you are going uphill, so just press harder on the gas!

Have a great day - unless, of course, you made other plans.

why don't you just open what you're looking for in a new tab and copy the link from the address bar?  :o

Gesher, who is "we"? If you are the Queen, you belong in the women's Forum.
"Gosh Philip, this posting on the Forum really does tax one but one can't be spending all one's time watching pornography. Imagine if the Press found out!"
The Blind Beggar is a character in Rebbe Nachman's story of the Seven Beggars.

"Come, we shall have some fun now!" thought Alice.

Alice was not a Queen, she met a queen (and a duchess) [and humpty-dumty (in another book)] but she definitely wasn't a queen and she didn't know anyone named Philip.

As long as you are not schizophrenic or delusional. Addicts are crazy enough without any extra baggage.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

A long time ago
I posted on a thread.
Since then,
every time I click "My Replies"
that thread pops up (if there is an unread post in it).

I am no longer interested in that thread however.
Is there a way to keep that thread from popping up when I click on "My Replies"?

I tried clicking subscribe, and then unsubscribe.
That didn't work.

thanks.

For cordnoy on mobile internet browser

How to quote into a different thread:
Follow these simple steps
  1. First create your new post and write all comments
  2. Go to the post you want to quote and click "quote"
  3. Open its "source code" and copy all
  4. Open "source code" in your new post and paste all the quoted source code into the beginning of your new post, then "submit"

Simple!

Before you do step 2 mentioned above
Youll see the date=numbers are in blue color. You're gonna need to manually write the numbers shown after date=

Thereafter delete those blue color numbers. Move onto step 2 ;-)

II guess I will just pass and do it the easy way, which doesn't work well.
