Immodest Internet versus daily Torah study
Gazing at Internet Immodesty causes loss of time, sound judgement, health, relationships, ability to work, and all types of life opportunities. Loss of self-esteem and self confidence. Torah study, occupies the mind with higher thoughts keeping you above cheap, fly by night thrills. It becomes a strong, protective friend for you. With it, you see the wonders and wisdom in the world everywhere, everyday. You are able to maintain a happy, sound attitude by means of מצוות and they enable you to hang on to all the things that are truly dear to you. With Immodest Internet you want to carry on but you have given it all away to Internet Immodesty.
Torah is "health to your navel and marrow to your bones", but immodest Internet is unraveling and does not lead to true pleasure. The pleasures of Torah are building, constructive, strengthening, refreshing...
Gazing at immodest images on the Internet is a weakening, boring, painful experience. Underneath it all it leaves you empty, disgusted, tired in body and mind.
Looking at immodest images and all that ensues from it is terribly wrong and sets you up on the wrong path . When Adam and Eve sinned they became the only creatures that needed to wear clothes. The truth is that we are ashamed of our sexuality because when it is taken out of its proper setting it is problematic. It can bring out the worst in humans causing them to lose their sense of shame.
Trading immodest Internet for Torah study is a quantum jump forward , and will improve your life in incredible ways.
The Torah itself states this clearly :
Talmud Kidushin 30b. Even so did the Holy One, blessed be He, speak unto Israel: ‘My children! I created the Evil Desire, but I [also] created the Torah, as its antidote; if you occupy yourselves with the Torah, you will not be delivered into his hand."
Some more quotes about Torah and its help in overcoming this:
Learning Torah is so strong it can take one out of the lowest levels of impurity. One who consistently sets time to study Torah every day will merit the ability to free oneself from sins (Sichos Haran 19).
Through Torah study one attains דעת . Strong דעת allows one to fight sin (Likutey Moharan 56).
The יצר הטוב is given the power to overcome the יצר הרע when one learns Torah intensely for its own sake, to draw closer to Hashem and bring Him joy (Ibid. 1).
One’s thoughts turn towards lewdness, if one does not set times to learn Torah (Sefer Hamidos, Limud 52).
The Rambam writes that one frees oneself from inappropriate thoughts through words of Torah. Immoral thoughts only enter a heart that is devoid of wisdom (Tiferes Bachurim, Article 3).
.
Many years ago in my youth, when I was attending Medical Lifestyle College toward preventing all disease, and having most of its best knowledge from Torah, a friend of mine saw me with a Torah book. "Why do you carry that book with you everywhere?" "I carry it with me because often by the end of the day it is carrying me."
