I’m in SA for a long time. 

Did your wife ask you, or did you just tell her ? What I mean is have you agreed on you telling her about tefilin? My opinion and personal experience with Tefilin isn’t relevant. 

I was taught there’s a distinction between honesty and dumping information on someone so that I can ‘feel’ better. 

As for disclosure I just realized that someone already mentioned that here.

Don't change your name.
Maybe we can change the psyche power in our brain that chooses the name.
