I was listening to a shiur once, no idea who, or when, don't quote me...

The rav explained the plight of some guy. But he had it real tough. No money, his wife died R'L. then his child got really sick. Something to this effect. Real, traumatic stuff.

And he cried to the rav, obviously on the rocks with his relationship with Hashem. He asked why it was so hard. Why life was so much full of despair?
And he replied like this:

"You know, it's not supposed to be like that. A normal person doesn't go through such anguish. It's not normal. You're supposed to have a good life. You're a special case."

Now I know this contradicts the Rashi at the beginning of Vayeishev but I don't think it necessarily means it's wrong. We're supposed to be happy, functioning people. Life's supposed to be something worth getting up for in the morning. And such trauma is really an exception to the norm. Else we'd all collapse.

It is hard. But it's not normal. If it's too hard, that is.
It's hard for me. But I'm an addict. I'm not normal. So it fits.

hashem only gives us nisyonos that we can take that means that even with those niyonos your supposed to be happy, no? cause if you cant then hashem wouldn't have given those nisyonos to you. i really dont agree with that rav

Sorry to hear 'bout the fall.

Re our discussion: well, yes and no. Sure, were I a supreme Tzaddik and saw Hashem in everything, then yes, He'd only give me something I can handle. But, R"L, the death of a close family member, brother, child, etc. Cancer, abuse, especially if they all happen. Just in relation to normal nisyonos, these are biggies. Obviously Hashem is giving it to you because it's the best thing for you. But I'd cry out. Like, what the hell, man, why's all this stuff just bein' lumped on me?

Though could be a lack of emunah on my part still I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

maybe my mortal enemy.

FSKOT!!!

Taphsics are designed to save you from pushing the fence or jumping over it

Is pushing yourself from pushing the fence considered doing?

I am not Mark, but I am responding to your question earlier. There's doing and stopping. Taphshic is stopping. What are you doing?

Gedolim could probably handle massive amounts of hardship. Tragedy. But overwhelmingly, they don't. They have money, places to sleep, no unnatural deaths, or very few. Well if you have 1000 descendants the odds are higher.

But it's not the norm. Sure I could handle it, but I'd be crying a lot more, feeling much more downtrodden and always exhausted, finished really. I don't have a source, but I don't think Hashem constantly bombards you with nisyonos that would tip you over the edge, dancing on the periphery of what you could handle. Life would be too hard.
So if life feels like this overwhelming cesspool of tragedy and depression, then something's wrong that's beyond the scope of Hashem's Hashgocha. And maybe understanding it is the nisayon.

Though I feel I'm way over my head here. I will ask this rov for clarity of what he meant. If he can even remember saying it. Haha.
