Hello everyone,

I need some input from my dear GYE chevra on a decision that I need clarity in. I'll ultimately be responsible, but I want to hear the different opinions and sides. 

I got a new car lease today, and the car has a browser that can connect to wifi and cannot be filtered. I've had opportunities with unfiltered internet at my in-laws and haven't done anything there. When I've found a loophole in my filters in the past, sometimes it has been a bit of, but not a major, issue.

But I am pretty scared bc I've never had access to wide open internet for a long period of time, and I'm worried to lose what I have.

my options are- keep the car and just decide I will not go on the Internet. Not impossible, by somewhat risky.

the only other option would be to buy the car off the lease and sell it- I would lose a decent amount of money. It won't kill me but it's real money- a few thousand probably.

your thoughts? What would YOU do?

and btw I called the leading guy and he's being respectful but I think he thinks I'm crazy, and I'm feeling sort of exposed and embarrassed that I have to make a tumult. I called TAG and they're aware of the problem but no solution for now.

In seriousness I'd ask an electrician, cos although I'm not afraid of open internet, I'd still reject such a rental

I did mean the leasing guy, or for Cordnoy, the leasin' guy. Not smashable, and it's not my car to smash. It belongs to the leasing company.

I researched for you and saw BMW apparently has a subscription for their internet 'app' which perhaps can be unsubscribed, and perhaps you rented one, I'm just saying

What a fascinating question! Do all new Hondas come with a Web browser? Doesn't it depend on the trim / equipment group you choose? 
Why aren't you able to switch the car out for a model with no Internet connection? 

Maybe a mechanic can disconnect the electricity of the whole console to prevent it from working. I think they can do that because sometimes it's necessary in order to repair something. I remember they disconnected the radio and clock on my yeshivish honda.

What ever decision you will take should be done with Yishev Hadat, and don't regret doing it after that.

Don't be embarrassed about asking for a filter. You can say you have kids...........
I belive that one day there will be a law that you have to be 16+ to go online.

I do have a rabbi that I can talk to, but after discussing it with my wife last night, she said that it just seems so stupid to have something that if at some point in struggling again, I can end up slipping with or even backsliding for a while with. And she's right- I can probably hold myself back from using it at all, but why do that?

And especially considering the fact that- would I not spend $5000 to maintain sobriety? I would- how much has therapy cost me? How much has the spiritual toll been?

So where I'm holding now is I might let some company fiddle with the Wifi antenna to see if they can disable it- but risky bc they would have to really get involved.

Or, I'm going to buy it off the lease and trade it in at a serious loss of several thousand dollars.
