Hi,

Just joined GYE. I have been clean for 7 days just through self control but I know I am going to need help in the future. I would like to block myself from accessing pornnography.

The issue is that I am very computer literate ( I work as a systems engineer.) and there I am able to bypass any filter or systems that would prevent me from viewing/downloading porn. In addition I own a multitude of devices that I can use to access the internet (even I install a filter on one I can bypass on another.)

I would love to hear people's suggestions on how I should approach this.

Welcome,
If you're such a pro, maybe tell me how to install a filter on a router.

Thanks and hatzlachah to you.

Sure.

How technical are you? I can give you recommendations but I am not sure If I will will be talking Chinese.

First I would recommend against any home router (Linksys,Belkin,Netgear or what ever came from your Internet provider) either using the builtin filtering or DNs filtering. These are very easy to reset to factory default and once reset you will easily be able to get back on the internet.

I would recommend purchasing a cheap Sonicwall and paying for a monthly subscription to there filtering service. Unless your are fairly technical you will probably need a professional to configure this. Next lock it in a cabinet that you do not have the key to.

Thank you Watson for the suggestion. However I feel that any software solution that I install on my computer I will be able to bypass.

Some people carry around a card with a list of recovery tools. I met a guy with like 20 tools on his list. At the first thought of lust they go through the tools. By the time they go though the tools, with Hashem's help they don't have an interest in by passing their filter. It's simple. May not be easy, but it's simple.

I'll try to list 5 common tools

1. Pray to God
2. Call at least one program friend
3. Call at least one family member
4. Think through your actions and where they will lead you
5. Do something helpful for someone

There is no magical solution to any of this. It is a lot of hard work and taking action is the most important thing.

Hatzlacha!
Much Hatzlacha!

Welcome my friend.
I am very tech savvy. I don't use ANY filters - they're a waste of time for me
I do rely partially on a reporting system with a trusted friend

I also know a little about webdesign
If I was bored I could create pornography all by myself from zero pixels, and even videos - why not?
Now what filter should I use to protect myself from myself?

It's a rhetorical question. I leave you to answer it

To block Utube I think K9 can do the job?

Filter is necessary for some, but when it comes down to it no filter is perfect and if there's a will there's a way.
If you're an LGBTQ or LGBTQ-questioning person and looking for someone who can understand you, feel free to reach out. I promise no judgement and to try and listen the best I can.

This isn't a suggestion, but just my experience. Although I was perfectly willing to install a filter when I first came here, it didn't end up being necessary for me with God's help. I haven't viewed porn in over a year. I can't view porn and expect to be the husband, father, friend and person I hope to become. I also can't expect to view porn and then not act out in some other way.

Look a filter is not what is going to stop you from viewing pornography!
It can help you or make it a bit harder for you to fall, so if you really want to atop watching pornography you have to realize that it's poison for you and it's or will destroy every good thing in your life.
Are you really ready to give up on pornography ?
We first need a will and then the guidance.
It wont be easy but it's worth.

I would share what worked for me.
1. The guardyoureyes.com/the-gye-program/20-tools/item/tool-10?category_id=278
2. The guardyoureyes.com/tools/90-day-chart

And I would suggest you to have arrange your office that your devices are visible to others.
Whats about having a report on your internet activity?

All the best
