Yes, I am familiar with that feeling too... but please, please know that your work was anything but useless... for one thing, now you know you can make it that far... and although it may not feel like it's worth it now, you now have the impetus to "figure out what went wrong" as best you can, and implement at least one tiny change in the way you do things, the way you think, etc... that you might not have been motivated to find before the fall... in other words: yes, it's b'dieved, but it's an opportunity to turn that fall into a z'chus.

I'm B"H clean for 6 month form pornography, and I'm really trying to be Heilig.
But my question is: why is pornography and masturbating considered the same?
Isn't pornography worse?
Or I must be clean from both if I want to be able to recover from my addiction?

I am trying very hard to be clean from masturbating and I'm also working on my Shmiras Einiem.
I'm not looking for a Heter to masturbate Ch"V, just sometimes it's very hard for me to hold myself back.

I wasn't planning on commenting on anything tonight, but this quote from R' Shais Taub is really irking me. I don't think his comparisons are valid, as there is absolutely nothing wrong with staring at a McDonald's billboard, while looking at pornography is completely Assur.

Both watching and acting out are forbidden. A more accurate comparison (in my mind) would be like saying "It's better to eat hamburgers with cheddar cheese than to eat lamb chops with American cheese".

And as others on this thread have already said, trying to justify one over the other is just that: justification. They're both problems that stem from the same root, and they both need to be worked on to survive the struggle.

He didn't intend to say looking at porn is permissible. The Torah allows looking at trief, not at things that lead to Mast. His point was nevertheless the end result of acting out is worse. It's considered as if harag nefesh, which porn isn't

you may look on McDonald's billboards if the women on it is dressed modesty , you may even go in to buy a drink (if you can take the smell)

Porn is severe, but masturbation is even more.
some people think that looking on porn is a small sin
but as we know, even if porn would be a mitzva we would look to do other mitzvot first.

I may be unique then, but I do find sometimes that I can hold back from masturbating because I know that it's a fleeting pleasure and after the physical enjoyment is over I will feel awful. Looking at porn on the other hand gives me a rush of Dopamine (is that what it's called) and every moment of it feels amazing.
