Proverbs Chapter 1 verses 15-18
15 my son, do not go on the way with them; restrain your foot from their path,
16 for their feet run to evil, and they hasten to shed blood.
They run to their own harm, and they do not know to pay heed to the matter.
17 for the net is scattered without cause in the eyes of all winged fowl,
18 but they lie in wait for their blood; they hide for their lives.
But the hunters lie in wait for the blood of the birds.
In these verses, the eyes are the organ that delivers the bird into the hunter's hands.
The bird sees the seeds in a hunter's trap, in his eyes he is getting a delicious free meal.
The eyes are like a camera, they take in images as flat data. The second stage of seeing is to process the images logically, considering their worth in one's mind. One has to process them through a Torah filter.
With promo one has to say, "They are offering this to me as a prize, but I know it to be a trap of destruction for body and soul. I cannot look at this and continue to be the same person I like and know. I have to keep away."
The people that make these "treats" available to you are not out to show you a nice time. Like drug dealers , they will sell you the drug to their advantage; they don't care what happens to you, even if they know it is bad for you. The drug buyer thinks he is getting a cheap high , but he will have to pay a heavy price for it.
The important lesson from these verses in Chapter 1 is to process what you see carefully, logically, correctly, in a Torah way. Don’t be na?ve, once you’ve decided it is not good, stay away! There is always a heavy price to pay for seeing promo.
Talmud Kidushin 30b. Even so did the Holy One, blessed be He, speak unto Israel: ‘My children! I created the Evil Desire, but I [also] created the Torah, as its antidote; if you occupy yourselves with the Torah, you will not be delivered into his hand."
