I think Cordnoy really agrees about the teshuvah point. Cordnoy correct me if I am wrong... Just when your living such a real and true life like I am sure after four years of working the program Cordnoy is, then teshuvah is also so real that it takes a lifetime and means an honest to Hashem work through of the steps of teshuvah that manifest itself in being so close to Hashem that you actually feel disgusted and embarrassed by previous actions. I know personally while I am making big strides in working on these areas I also feel like its not my fault and I am just doing the best I can. Real Teshuvah should involve me taking full responsibility for my actions.

Also still want to hear a response about when the program comes before religion...

But I think the problem is in people's brains. HKBH probably views teshuva as enlightened self interest, because He's so rational, and because He has tremendous respect for what we think.
