Wow, sweet. And so true in our own life (the wife and I). Thanks again, UAJ!

I have a favorite thought on this parsha, too. Where do I post it?

While you're a certainly welcome to post it here, you probably should post it on your own thread, which is here:
guardyoureyes.com/forum/1-Break-Free/4638-Hashem-has-given-me-11-yrs-sobriety-but-very-different-experience#125195

Poor guy, he's like the poor millionaire. For years he's posting on everyone else's thread because he doesn't even realize that sitting in the walls of the site is his very own thread.

Thoughts on Parshas Emor;

And you thought you had it hard

I saw a mind blowing Chazal today that can provide tremendous chizzuk to all of us that are struggling or that fell in the past. The Torah tells us that while a Cohen is permitted to marry a widow, a Cohen Gadol, however, is forbidden. The question is why. I saw brought down this week, that the Torah was concerned that when the Cohen Gadol is in the Kodesh Hakodoshim on Yom Kippur he may have seen a beautiful married woman at some time and there is a concern that he will daven that her husband should die so he can marry her.
Picture this, the holiest day of the year, holiest place in the world, performing the service that will potentially bring a complete kapparah for klal yisroel, and what is he thinking of? Joe Schmoe's pretty wife. How could it be? The answer is because we are human beings and we have flaws. Indeed, sometimes we are even given tests that we cannot pass. So, let say we've failed in the past. We can't give up. We can have failed and still be as great as the Cohen Gadol going into the Kodesh Hakodshim. But on one condition that we try.

Thank you Hashem for helping me make my way out the muck.

I happen to have seen Joe Schmoe's wife and she was nothing special, really. Just FYI.

Just FYI in Bardichev the minhag was to say "I saw Harry's wife".

Also, if you have a vort you should open a thread in the Beis Medrash-- I managed to shlep you in there once, but you should go more often, I don't like shlepping people into Beis Medrash. Rak hamenuval yesh lemoshcho lbeis hamedrash...

Maybe it's worth it to be a menuval just to get schlepped into the beis hamidrash by the likes of you.

Some thought on Tisha B'av

I was thinking about the Kinnah we say concerning the son and daughter of Rabbi Yishmoel. I would think that if you want to give over a tragedy tell me about the Jewish children who were violated. Why did chazal pick this incident? I was thinking that perhaps חז״ל wanted to convey to us a message. If someone is faced with the nisayon of arayos, think about the children of Rabbi Yishmoel. What was Ben Rabbi Yishmoel's reaction: I"m a descendant of Aharon and I should marry a maidservant. We too are mamleches cohanim. We have to ask ourselves the same question. How can we be nichshol in such a sin? The children of Rabbi Yishmoel were so pained by such a thought it brought them to death. Can you imagine how strong a person's grief must be to die from that grief, and in a matter of hours (it was already daylight when they recognized each other). This is what happened to them. Perhaps Chazal are conveying to us next time we are tempted contemplate the pain and anquish that is appropriate in a situation of a mamleches cohanim being nichshal in arayos.
We should be zoche to guard our eyes and in that zechus experience ותחזנה עינינו בשובך לציון ברחמים. I was thinking everyone will see the third bais hamikdash after techias hameysim, but a select few will see bshuvcha at the actual time of return. If I had to guess it is those who work on being מתקן their עינינו their eyes. May we all be zoche.

I saw the following vort in an email I get: Rav Wolbe writes (Ma'amerei Yemei Ratzon pg. 388) that the avodas hayom of Rosh Hashana is "to confuse theSatan." In other words, we are to contest the erroneous assumption that the yetzer hara is made out of steel and there is no way to overcome him. From all of our tefillos on Rosh Hashana which revolve around the Final Redemption, there is one thing that should become clear: Evil is not an invincible entity. When Hashem reveals His glory, "all evil will dissipate like smoke." Our objective is to leave Rosh Hashana with a true belief that the evil in the world can and will be destroyed, and that the evil within us i.e. the yetzer hara, can also be vanquished. It might take time, but with Hashem's help and with the strength of the Torah we can conquer him!
Boruch Hashem there is a place in this world called guardyoureyes where Yidden proclaim on a daily basis that the Soton is not invincible. Where Yidden recognize that the avodah zora called porn and lust is simply a smokescreen and nothing more. Thank you Hashem for leading me here and helping me be a part of it.
A ksiva chasima Tova to all, and a special thank you to all of the people that make this place so special.
