Or if I would stop chatting at night, go to sleep normal time, and not catch strep,

then I wouldn't need to go to the doctor and walk back home and be on the icy sidewalks,

then I wouldn't fall!!

people here are being annoying and trying to be funny. A fall is not something to be taken lightly.

Notice the time of this post (and I'm in Israel making it 3:30 AM!!!).

I've been tossing and turning in bed, contemplating whether or not I can take a joke!!

One of my biggest fears is snow and ice. I cannot bear it. I’m watching the weather forecast now and they’ve said it might snow this week. I’m already starting to feel sick.

I hate the snow and ice. I have a real fear of slipping and falling and hurting myself. I used to slip and fall and bounce. Then when I fell I started breaking things (mainly myself) and now since I’ve ruined my spine and had the operations, I’m terrified of falling and ending up in a wheelchair. It could happen.

For years I couldn’t leave the house when it snowed, I’d call in sick at work and just ride it out. Then I was given a pair of those ice grippers which genuinely changed my life and I could leave the house again. But I’m still frightened to go out, especially by myself. I know the chances of me falling are vastly reduced with the grippers, but if I’m out by myself there’s a real, genuine fear that I’ll topple over and really hurt myself.

If it doesn’t snow this week then it might happen next week. It’s pretty much guaranteed to happen at some point over the next few wintery months. The thought fills me with horror. No really. I know like half the nation I should dance with joy, get the sledge out and start building a snowman, but really that’s not for me.

You can keep your snow; you can keep your ice. I’ll stay inside and keep warm and safe if I can. I’m slowly getting my nerve up, it’s a vast improvement on where I used to be and how I used to panic at the very thought. I still feel sick though, horribly sick. It’s "snow joke."

You should move to Israel. It (almost) never snows there.

And even if it does, if you don't catch strep, you shouldn't have to go to the doctor, and then you won't have to be outside at night when the ice is just freezing into a slippery sheet!!

I had a scary thought during maariv tonight. I was thinking about one of Dov's recent megillos (they are long enough to take up a whole shemoneh esrei!!) how he wrote that it is rare that a person nowadays is willing to give up everything only because that's what Hashem wants, mostly it's because it is too painful for the person to live with (that's how I read it anyways). I was thinking of a few people I should show that to, who are cutting themselves slack and not really doing everything they could, yet they hold themselves to be true ovdei Hashem. and then I thought "how about showing it to yourself!! Just because you are giving it your all in one area, does that mean you're perfect now?!"

One thing that I have realized I'm not good (that bothers me slightly, I've since realized a few others that don't bother me at all) is krias sh'ma she'al hamitah. I just don't like doing it. I've tried many times to get more serious about it, but it never really worked. So I decided once again, we're going to get serious about it. "how are you going to do that? I'm just going to take it more seriously, I'm gonna try harder"....uh oh.... I've heard those words before, the famous last words....and then a little eagle started posting in my mind "what's gonna be different this time?"

So, what does everyone say? OPEN UP!!! Speak about it, face it, admit it!!

"GREAT!! To who?".."why not to your wife? she won't be hurt by this, it won't be painful for her like your other issue!!"..."yeah, but....she'll lose respect for me"..."HEY didn't you write in a post that the only reason you're not telling your wife is because it'll hurt her?!" *

So I'm planning on telling my wife tonight "you know something interesting, I seem to have a problem. I don't want to say krias shema sheal hamitah. I have tried to do it, but it doesn't seem to work. So I'm jsut admitting that I have this problem, and that I need to face it and make it real"

Hmmm....Will I? It's much more comfortable to just continue skipping it, and to keep on trying to make it more serious, and giving myself chizzuk that I'm trying.....I guess I'll let y'all know

*Just wanted to clarify, I now know for sure that my not telling my wife is not only because it will hurt her, even this thing, a small imperfection is so scary, for sure something like P&M!!

i thought for a few lines that you were talkin' about me....until you got to the part where you said, "yet they hold themselves to be true ovdei Hashem." I knew then that you had others in mind. shew!

Kerias shema she'al hamitah is important.
I am lax as well.
Perhaps let's make a group kabbalah.
What you say?

When I first started working on my problems one of the Kabolos I took upon myself was to say krias Shema every night from a siddur. I kept to it for quite a while but lately I got lax about it. So thanks for the reminder and I join you in being mekabel Bli Neder to be careful to say the entire krias Shema from a siddur each night. In the zechus of our tefillos we should be helped.
