I have been reading (ok listening to) some harry potter. I was curious about the author and found this quote from her which I thought was very appropriate:

Why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so Rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you've lived so cautiously, that you might as well not have lived at all.

So beautiful. So many true ideas. Acceptance/not resisting what is, Emes, Rock bottom.

With great appreciation to the Ribbono Shel Olam, to my wife, my Rav, and my good friends here at GYE, I am happy to say that yesterday, March 4th was my 1,000th day sober.

I began my journey by myself all alone.  I was not very successful.  My wife found out about my addiction and we spoke to our Rav - that helped quite a bit.  About 2 years after that, I found this site - and since then, the road has gotten considerably smoother.  I began to understand things about this addiction that I never had before.  The material on this site was a catalyst for my wife and I to discuss things more openly an honestly than ever before.

Then I started exploring this forum.  The care and concern, as well as the jokes and laughter, made it a place that was comfortable like a home.  I met some people on the phone and live, and I shared "the truth about myself".  I learned to accept myself and my challenges.

Thank you for all your sharing, and all the lessons I have learned from each of you.  I would like to especially thank Dov.  Dov, your words have made, and continue to make, a great impression on me.

I haven't "arrived" or gotten "there" (wherever that is).  I don't think that ever happens, but I know that I have a support system of people that care about me and who I can reach out to openly and honestly - and that is more precious than gold.  I still have ups and downs and have to remind myself that there is no time off, and there is no room for complacency.  I have gotten many reminders of that from reading this forum.

May we all be zocheh to find our derech in recovery, and continue to help each other to remain sober one day at a time.

Now, by the powerlessness vested in me, I would like to pronounce March forth international Keep On Truckin day!

Me too. Wishing you continued success in staying clean one day at a time.
The Blind Beggar is a character in Rebbe Nachman's story of the Seven Beggars.
If I view a woman as an object, I am powerless over lust, but I don't have to look.
I can guard my eyes.
I want to guard my eyes.
I do guard my eyes.
Why do I say these four lines?
