This isn't something that I get to choose. it is usually predetermined by either the caterer or the balei simcha. Just one of the many things that the musician/singer has no control over. You find the same thing when people complain about the volume of the band by simchas. 99.9 percent of the time it has nothing to do with the musician or band, and is the command that was given by the balei simcha
