Which filter worked for you? 12 May 2014 17:45 #231570

Hi Everyone,

I was on the way on the 90 Day Chart and I fell after 61 consecutive clean days. The cause was the lack of a good filter.

My challenge with a filter is that I work in a quiet office that belongs to someone else, in where a find myself often alone. I cannot put a filter that works directly with the network because the office doesn’t belong to me.

I tried installing K9, using an on-the-spot created email address that I purposely did not memorize, and Of course I created a gibberish password to K9 that I didn’t memorize as well. All of that worked for a few weeks until I once had a strong urge to watching porn. Since I’m little technical, I quickly found out that if you’re an admin on your computer then K9 is completely worthless, even without knowing the password and without having access to the email account associated. I don’t want to say details not to open eyes to those who don’t know the tricks yet…….

To summarize the issue:
1. I don’t own the office and the network.
2. I’m an admin on the computer.

Does anyone have any advice?

1. There are offices that provide assistance with this confidentially - v'nishmartem, Tag, safe-tech, etc.

2. My apologies......I never received and formal education on how to use a keyboard, computer, internet, p2p, social media connections, external hard drives, etc. I was a quick study. Strangly enough, I hardly ever needed assistance. I knew how to receive, obtain, download, upload, contact anything which tickled my fancy. I had more videos downloaded that the entire MGM studios. I could switch fetishes every hour for a year without runnin' out of material. I was able to contact any woman in the world and play any game I wanted with them - many times - even for free; and no, I will not give out this information. How was I able to do this? How were many other shy, inexperienced, akward, etc. people on this site ever able to build up the courage to approach prostitutes on the street, strip clubs, women on the web, etc?

the answer to these questions is simple.....it is because I/we had the willpower, the commitment to stop at no cost, no barriers, no restrictions...to get our fix.

We would not be stopped!

My point bein'.......

I relate, very very well.

I have VCF it works very well, but as an extra precaution I asked my wife to be the administrator on the computer. It is annoying a little bit, but it's so good that I can't play around. I also put up the filter to level 5.

BUT, I already know ways to get my fix if the need arises, so it really boils down to developing the filter in between the ears, the only one that really works, and the only one that can filter sights, thoughts, fantasies, etc.

KOT!!! KOMT!!!

As those of you who know me know, I am against filters because as Pidaini said, the only filter that REALLY works is the one in our heads. Anything else is just a workaround to the real problem.

However, I broke down and installed a filter several months ago that I've been very impressed with. Its called SkyDog and is a router and a cloud service. I got it to protect the kids but it helps me too. It does have drawbacks such as not being to filter Google results but theres a way around that. But the content filtering is excellent and highly configurable.

It is a network solution so it won't help in your case, but I wanted to put it out there. It is worth checking out.

Do you need to be the admin on the computer?

Perhaps you can explain to your boss that your rabbi doesn't let you work in a place without a proper filter.
Additionally you can set up a monitoring software. or Opendns and have someone you trust set it up and monitor it, and call you if there is new throughput which would mean you have gotten around it.
BTW I totally agree with Pidaini there is no true solution. I have worked in a office were someone else was admin and had K9 and web chaver installed and I still got around it. Try building up your self control.
you can contact me for additional filtering assistance.

A nice quick thread to read, as there have been several filter questions lately.

Heh....funny....

I now know that no filter will work for me!!!!

If I want it, I will get it, finished.

Sometimes, even if I don't want it, I will still spend hours looking for ways to get it!!

Thanks for letting me bring that out.
