Great story from Bardichev, I didn't want to lose.

bardichev wrote on 11 Oct 2011 15:16:

there are a few answers on a few differrent levels

but thaey are all trye

first of all a non jew is better than a non frum jew in being able to explain this

i will begin with a story

several years ago

i was working with a non jew

as we were doing our work

a frum woman strutted past the 2 of us in a very triggering way (nebach  she is not my problem)

i at that point turned away

the fellow said

hey i saw you didnt want to look at her

i said "thats true"

he asked me why

i said she is not mine

he continued to say

he notices young boys that wait for the light

on a busy street either look down or turn around to avoid looking into the passing cars

he was an off duty cop

he said he noticed a 13-14 year old boy

turnned around not too look at a convertible roof top down full of beachgoers

they were lauging at the kid

but he wouldnt raise his eyes

here goes

"I KNOW WHY THE JEWSARE THE CHOSEN PEOPLE"

i will try to adress more about this good question in the future

That is people living in sobriety by choice. It's the funny parallel between the YH talk, kedusha (geder ervah), the 'sin' business, teshuvah - and sobriety and the program of living for your G-d and to give. They are so similar that many of us are tempted to make the fatal error and start to believe they are the same....but they are not. It's the motive that is different, and the derech to get there, too.

This is a humbling thing for me. For to me it means that all those truly good Jews out there are doing many of the good things I do in recovery - but they do it by choice. I, on the other hand, only really ended up doing them because I had to (and still have to).

The Big Book calls it "enlightened self-interest". Not a bad thing, at all....

Humbling, and true.

I may not get a shred of olam habo or s'char out of this recovery. But that is fine by me. At least I will not have wasted a life by remaining the big faker I naturally am when I am not living sober.
"Off the 18-wheeler and fine on this tricycle!", "I do not particularly care exactly which "lav" suicide is. I'm not interested in it for other reasons...and you are probably the same."

ONE OH OH OH.  I can't beleive it.  I feel like I have been here forever, and I only found this place less than 6 months ago.  It's been a great ride amigos - period .  I have grown so much and look forward to much trucking, cholint eating, (wha'ts for lunch OM?) and just plain growing.

You all mean so much to me.  Your humor and chizzuk have uplifted me.  Thank you for just being a great bunch of friends -  true friends.  :'(

oh, and have a happy THANKS GIVING .
