or: if i don't buy that nosh/book/rc airplane/smartphone i will be depressed for 3.5 weeks
or: if i drink woodford........ oh wait, not this one

I was jogging home on my way from the bakery and saw your new house in a fancy neighborhood.
Wanted to say :Nice progress!
Also wanted to say: Meshane mokoim, meshane mazal, so mazal tov!

Hey gibbor. Awesome that it sounds like you are able to be open with your wife on this. There is no support like the support of a spouse nd there is no humility like that we are forced to adopt when talking abt this with our spouse. Basically- its a major boon to recovery and if your blessed with it, then Use it!

Ok, some thoughts from shabbos.  I was thinking how I am so curious about who certain people on the forum are, and how I would love to meet them.  Then I thought, just like people on GYE are partially revealed and partially hidden, so too is the RBS"O.  If only I were as curious to meet and know the RBS"O as I am to meet people here.

The Chofetz Chayim discusses a ba'al lashon hora and someone who speaks lashon hora.  A ba'al lashon hora is someone who never tries to control himself.  The gemara says his aveira is equivalent to a"z, giluy arayos, and shefichus damim.  However, if he controls himself sometimes, then he is not begeder a ba'al lashon hora.

I was thinking that everyone here can say they are not a ba'al ta'ava.  We may have ta'avos, but as long as we control them at least sometimes, we have already gained something precious.

It says in this weeks parsha (eikev) that we shouldn't drive out the 7 nations all at once or pen so that the wild animals shouldn't take over.  If we leave a void, the wild animals will fill it.  When we try to stop our self destructive behavior, we can't just get rid of the negative.  That leaves a vacuum that will be filled with "wild animals".  We need to simultaneously fill it with something positive and not leave a vacuum.

Awesome thought Gibbor! So true. I would say one step further that the underlying cause of our problem IS that vacuum (that comes from our having a hole in our personalities. Like a bathtub without a drain and all the water, the Torah, keeps draining right out with no chance of working on us and helping us change). The junk we use to plug that hole is lust and m*. But it is a poor fix. We need to fix that hole with goodness. Stop the vacuum from sucking our personalities and life away from us.

Thanks  BOT, I wanted to get all the thoughts out of my head while I remembered them.  I figured they were good food for thought and discussion.  They could be further refined later. Have you thought about a roller coaster or train avatar?

Well, my wife said that she noticed I've been happier for the last few weeks.  That's about when I started posting on this forum.  Coincidence? I think not.  Thanks guys!
