I always understood "Babua" to mean "reflection" rather than "shadow". So I maybe it means that you cant see its reflection in a second mirror. Artscroll anyone?

Ok I looked it up. Rashi in a bunch of places says it means shadow. And in Avodah Zara 48b he explains what "shadow of a shadow" means (in a different context). Ayen shom.
