Driving a car is really not the best time for shmiras einayim.
You have to be aware of everything happening or chas v'shalom there can be an accident.

Really the only thing to say is that you should avoid driving when you're able to and if you want to practice or have to get somewhere then you should try to do it at night and on streets that are less busy.

Sorry but that's what i think is right.

This is an issue that I struggle with and it basically boils down to common sense. Yes I need to be aware of all the cars on the road around me but i don't need to know what the driver looks like. And as for pedestrians if they are crossing the street or look like they are going to, then i need to be aware of their presence and anticipate what they might do, but at the same time not notice or concentrate on what they look like (not always as easy as it sounds). It's especially difficult when waiting for a red light and I'm first in line and all the people are crossing right in front of my car. If I'm driving with someone else I'll tell them to tell me when the light turns green, meanwhile I'll pretend to fiddle with my phone or the radio.

And i definitely should not be constantly turning my head to scan the sidewalks looking for "interesting" people. Not doing that makes me a better driver too.

Biking (which I do a lot of too) is a whole 'nother story...

I think that Gevurah is right, and we don't need to be that extreme.Though if anyone finds that this is the trigger to their acting out then they may want to think about cutting down on driving as much as possible.

Well said. I've recently become very familiar with the Toyota symbol on the steering wheel of my car. Not while driving of corse, but a lot of the sideways glances I've found are when you are going slow (or should be anyway.) So instead of glancing right and left, I started glancing down. Often we really know trigger areas, certain corners where people congregate, certain store windows, so if we keep that in mind when we go down that block we can be prepared so the offensive sight doesn't catch us unarmed. If can avoid those ares altogether and take a different route, - then all the better.
Good luck, and yes, drive safely -

Well summer is upon us, and I don't know about you, but around where I live folks go outside wearing very little clothing. So to help distract me from looking where I shouldn't, I usually listen to something while I drive (either a shiur or music), which helps keep me "focused". I also try to make good use of the sun visor to stop sideways glances to the left (to the right can still be an issue though). Bottom line, we have to drive safely.
