Although I have not been on GYE a lot lately I would like to say thank you to all the members who have helped me get to where I am. GYE is literally a life saver. Any teenager who is struggling please let me know and I will try and pass on the valuable advice which I have received.

One important tool for anyone to use is to have the mindset that we we are not immortal, however, what makes life so valuable is that life ends. Time is luck. Don't waste your life living someone else's life. Fight for what matters to you. There is no better way to live.
You have to keep reminding yourself that if you are following the ways of Hashem then everything would turn out for the good. An example is if someone puts a block on their phone. At first it feels like a great start but then you start noticing that none of your friends have blocks on their phone.. so why should I? In order to combat this we should keep reinforcing to ourself that setting boundaries are healthy. We have to learn to say no without feeling guilty. You will find so much self confidence in yourself if you set boundaries.
THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE IS OFFENCE. You can't just sit back and hope that lust doesn't strike. You have to go out of your way day in day out to make sure that you are well prepared.
However, we have to realise we are not perfect. Being a perfectionist will just cause us to either be all in or nothing. We need to accept that we are mediocre. We have to except we are not perfect.

One of the greatest feelings I have is when I have lived a week to its fullest with no lust or mastubating. It's Friday night and I'm in shull and I'm singing Lecha Dodi. I almost cry when I'm singing it to thank Hashem the week went smoothly. There are always times, it comes like waves, when suddenly it feels like I need to masturbate. I forget the feeling of being really close to Hashem and being spiritually high. When, with Hashem's help the storm passes. There is no better feeling. Automatically I feel lifted.

It is so important to stop a thought at conception!!! My main methods are thinking of a powerful Jewish song such as L'maancha. Or thinking of times when you are closely connected to Hashem. Everyone has these moments. Or perhaps texting a fellow GYE member.

Sometimes this doesn't take the urge away. If you chas veshalom go into the next stage then here are my ideas.

I truly believe that struggling with masturbation (perhaps not addiction) is the ultimate test of faith. When a lust strike occurs, suddenly all consequences are blocked and the clear picture/path starts to fade. My main method for overcoming this is that whenever I feel no urge at all to lust (everyone has these moments) I always think that there will be dark times ahead of me. This is not going to last forever. There will be times ahead, when all hope is lost and times when faith gets buried. However, we have to be greater than what we suffer. Even when we fall short sometimes, as long as faith is kept... there is no better way to live.

If there was sun all year nothing would grow. Same to with us, we have to expect there to be test from Hashem. At the end of the day they are just chances for our personal growth. Every time we say no we are removing a barrier that is blocking us from connecting to Hashem, the light is more clear.

Finally, an important tool is to really make staying clean and living life the most important thing of your life. You don't want to be sitting on your death bed with guilt and regret that you have wasted your whole life.

I wish everyone a meaningful Yom Kippur.

p.s. sorry for just rambling on
