While I don't follow your question, the 12 steps can bring you closer to God.
Other things can as well.
when one feels a void in his life, and he has this addiction, and he tries many things, he needs to realize that he needs to take another step.

What will that step be?

1. Attitude. Change my mind, forget the past that crushes me.
Forget that I'm not very successful.
2. Motivation!
Yes, I think this is a good step.
3. Reflect where is the fault.
4. Search pleasurable activities.
5. Be cheerful and happy with who I am and the party that Hashem gives me.
6. Make a work plan.
7. Having a list of these things and take it with me.
8. All this ONLY with the help of Hashem! (This is the point 1)
