For me it's quite simple, I look at myself as "diabetic", and I got that idea from Rabbi Dr. Twerski when he was on Duvid Chaim's call.
Someone asked him that he'd been in the program for a few years and then dropped out and now he's on the call, but he's not seeing any progress. To which the Dr. replied "you have to have some reason to live besides for staying clean, just like a diabetic has a full life he just has to keep himself in check"
We are the same good people that we were before we diagnosed ourselves, just now we know what we can "eat" and can't "eat" in order to stay healthy and actually be able to pursue those things that are of real value to us!!
The diabetic needs to eat certain things and if not he'll end up in the hospital and not being able to pursue his life. He needs to constantly be aware of sugar level and other things for if not his life will be disturbed. The same is with me, I need to take the time to go to meetings in order to make sure that I can continue life smoothly, I need to constantly be in check where my "resentment/acceptance level" is holding so that I don't end up on a massive detour from life!!
So You're still a good guy, all of us are, and we were created in the image of Hashem, with a tendency to get caught up with lust.....nothing wrong with that!!
Smile!! It's all good! and KOMT!!!
