Hey Mistah! Do kirbies really need to be halal? I thought only meat, does the "halal" mean that it was maasered and that it wasn't grown on OPT [occupied palestinian territory ::) ] during the sabbatical year? ???

Dear TZ, you beat me to it. I was also gonna comment on the kirbies and the halal (and about my cute little neighbor, Libby).

Dear Mr. E,

I also work with computers and internet. I am not ready to quit my job, but I am ready to be more careful, so as to avoid the trap of the slipperry slope out there. Are you?

I don't know much about AA/SA and 12 steps, but one line that keeps on banging in my head (as quoted in the GYE handbook) is: There is no "drinking like a gentleman" for an alcoholic, and neither is there for us. The definition of an addict is that we make the same foolish mistake again and again, yet we go back and tell ourselves we're in control of the situation.

Notwithstanding the importance of all other wise concepts of AA/SA that we need to work on, but as I said recently, for me the ultimate step is "Watch your step!" As the Mesilas Yeshorim says (some believe that his advice and insight can help even people like you and me), even an animal runs away from danger, so why should we be like a blind man who foolishly stands at the edge of the river?

A person who loves eating chocolate, but the doctor tells him that it will cause him to become terminally ill ch"v, has to be a big fool to ignore the warning and follow his desires. Agree?

Dear chaver, I am in the same boat as you. I feel the pull just as well. I need all the chizzuk I can get to keep away from trouble. Won't you join me in this journey? Together we can do it.

Be'ezrat Hashem na'aseh venatzli'ach!

MT

Hey MT!
I'm on board-
Agreed no more blind man by the river.
BTW wat do you think of my shmira system?

Re: The path to the Gaurden of Emunah 31 Oct 2012 18:24 #147000

Your system sounds good to me - as long as you don't try to 'fool the system'.
As mentioned, I also have shmira systems in place, but they are only intended as a 'backup system'. We need to stay far enough so that even our systems' early warning alarms do not go off. In my decades of trial and error I have learned the hard way that even a knas of several thousand dollars will not deter a fool from doing the most foolish things. Keeping far far away from trouble is the best deterrent.

Hatzlacha, my dear friend

*OFFICIAL POST DAY 2*
(i learned this from Teezee)
Okay Praised be the Lord I am on Day 2.
i am relatively calm and not very irritable. I gave my $20 to my shomer and am dividing up my worktime btwn GYE and real workstuff (approx 80-20% ratio) BUT i aint gone to VIN, or YWN or F***** M****** or NHL (no games anyways) or BING IMAGES YIMACH SHMOY! FOY! so things are pretty good.

Also my sincerest condolences go out to all our dear Phriends who have been affected by Sandy, May the Lord grant them strength and joy, health and success and fortidude amongst all the congregation of israel, AMEN

BTW just some more background - so far I haven't mentioned THE GARDEN OF EMUNAH , and i was starting to feel that the name of this thread was kinda deceptive - like big name dropping- so I'll tell yah what its all about.

years ago my sis sent me the books Garden of Emunah and Garden of Peace (she said she didn't read the Garden of Peace, but every time my Bro-in-law would read it he would start acting very nice) I took right to the Garden of peace ersp. the 6th chapter - YEAH he rteally has a good handle on the way things are supposed to be!

I eventualy read the entire book and then the Garden of Emunah also - GREAT STUFF! very yesodot-dik to jewish life, makes yah calm and happy!, but one big problem they are books, and if you don't pick them up to read them then they aint gonna chase after you and yell at you,

Second problem: they are not just Books they are ways of life. and you need to implement them, and when you let it all slack off then you are gonna read less and implement less and before you know it yer down on the floor.

So I decided i need a path to the garden of emunah - I need people to yell at me "GO READ THAT BOOK!" and "HEY HOW COME YER ACTING ANTI-EMUNAH!" "HOW COME YER NOT RESPECTIN YER WIFE - YOUZE BAD REAL BADD! ONE SMACK WOULDA HELPED YAH LONG AGO BUT NOW I GONNA NEED TO BEAT Y'ALL FOR A BIT!" so thats the point

basically i know what needs to bee done (more or less) BUT NEED TO REVEIW IT AND STAY FOCUSED. I will try to post as frankly as possible.

I'm running out of steam and will post more later, i got some good Toirelach! (maybe?)

And "Wings" wasn't written by Reb Meir Uri of Toronto, Descendant of the illustrious Strelisk dynasty and "the Old Stretiner of the Lower East Side"?

Hey TZ wings creeped me out , so I didn't put it on the list,
burt yes it is a good tile, bur not Mandatory.

Dear Gevurah Sh'Biyesod

Wow wow wow-
do i see a kindred spirit?

HARRY POTTER #'s 1-7 must be able to quote them fin shluf arois!

As Hershel himelf once said "I don't think the toilet has ever had anything quite as nasty as your head in it before, Dudley" Is that a subtle referance to SA's?

Is Slytherin the proper place for a SA?

I think Hufflepuff is really the right place - don't focus on cunning, don't focus on glory, don't focus on wisdom
Just try to do the right thing "although some think they're just a bunch of duffers"

Also there symbol is a Badger (possum?)

more soon

Aha, good but not mandatory, eh?

What about the second story, the one about an angel named Pinyah [Gottesman, seriously? what were YOU drinking?] the part where Rabbi Lichtenstein/Lampton/Lightchimicallit looks into the mirror and sees how all his wonderful mitzvos and good deeds were really all his ugly ego? [A true Jekyll and Hyde moment there...]
