I spoke to an Adam Gadol last year and I asked him if I am mechuyav to isolate myself from the world in order to avoid the things that trigger me. Should I never go to a Chasuna or a Bar Mitzva again? Shopping? Maybe not even to Shul? he said that it would be impossible to live that way and it would only make things worse, and it would not be fair to my family. That I should live life normally and deal with things as they come.

This was a situation that I could not avoid without causing difficulty for others. It turned out much worse than i expected, and I will obviously think twice before I get myself into such a spot again. (And obviously I will make sure that i stay as far as I can from that person in the future). But some things can't be avoided. In other words, Life Happens...

A drunk (in recovery and sober for many years) told me that the real problem we have is not drinking - but sobriety.

Living without resorting to our drug (or some drug) is so distasteful to us, apparently! We just do not find the life that Hashem gives us acceptable.

That is what step 3 is about, I think. For Hashem's Will for us is expressed far more in the things that happen to us and for us, than in His mitzvos. And that is a very, very important point for me and other people to accept. His Will for me is expressed in the the way my life goes, mainly. But that is the big issue. It's the gift of step 3 and all the steps that follow it enable people with this problem to actually get a 3rd step for real. Until we do 4-9, we cannot possibly have a 3rd step. Our middos, habits, and past are just too in-the-way.

It's Gevura Shebyesod day again. 2 years now since i finally committed to giving up the last and most compelling of the shmutz I was still holding on to.

Yes I'm still struggling, and I accept that it will be a life-long battle. But things are so much better than they were before, and I could not have done it without all the friends i have made here. So thank you to all of you, and especially to R' Guard who makes it all possible.
