[20 Sivan]

34 Jewish men and 17 Jewish women were burned at the stake in Blois France, 1171, as a result of the first ritual-murder trial in Europe. Rabbeinu Tam declared a fast day to mark the event. The day was confirmed as a fast day centuries later, in Poland, following the murder of 6000 Jews of Niemirov during the Chmielnicki massacres, 1648. Many Siddurim have Slichot for Kaf Sivan.

(Meditation for Sundays)

Sunday
Chessed
The world was built
With kindness

We are a microcosm
Of the world

This we are built
With Chessed
To spread Lovingkindness
Throughout the world
With the knowledge
Of a Kind Creator
As Avraham our father did
We are all his students
So we must learn from him
To spread the awareness of God
All across the globe

Dear Child
I know the world is a confusing place
A hurtful place at times
But I’m always with you
As a comfort to you

Rely on me
As I hold your hand through life
No matter where you go
In everything you experience
I am with you

How beautifully fascinating
Is the World of Birds
Painting the airspace above us
With their colorful
& diverse flights

Good point, shkoyach.

Visiting a dear friend
In the cemetery
As well as a tzaddik
Looking at the many many graves
So many of them
Beyond what the eyes can see

Believing in the heart
That both this tzaddik & my friend
Will arise from the earth
Their souls shining
Through their reconstituted pure bodies
With joy we shall greet them
With the healing of all pain
Will come a Unity
Like no other
All our hearts as One
Finally seeing our final destiny
For everlasting life

Essence of Speech
To bring forth
Profound thought & emotion
From the innermost depths
As refreshing water
Buried deep beneath the surface
When the Art of Speech
Is used properly
It expand the heart & mind
So that though it’s impossible
To convey the true depths of the soul
Via concrete words
Nevertheless
The soul-filled words
Does create an opening
Of the Divine soul
That God breathed
Into us
Letting us know
Of the Great Gift
Of the spoken word

Sparkling Water
Shining
From across the table
Life-giving liquid

The mystical combination
Of the opposites
Of a no-taste-deliciousness
To every drop
That the drinker of water enjoys

Foundation of Happiness
Is mindful awareness

When I have a toothache
We know that NOT having a toothache
Is a wonderful thing

Yes!!
A non-toothache
Is a very pleasant event!!

A non-headache- even better!!

It just takes a few minutes
To think about the kindness
& the joy
Of a non-toothache

So for today
(& hopefully every day)
Thank you God
For this great gift
Of the non-toothache
That you have given me!!!!

The saying goes
“ A 1000 mile journey
Begins with the first step”

Grateful to God
For sending me a wise elderly man
To tell me this on Shabbos
& for elaborating on this concept

Its so true!!!

People are mistaken
When dwelling on past mistakes
On wasted years
Gone forever

The mourning over past losses
Though has its healthy place
Usually isn’t the best approach to life
For it can seriously
Stall or stunt
Growth that can occur today
To plant the seeds
Of a hopeful & joyful future

This is true even of older people
Who have crossed most of their life span
& yet even for them
A very meaningful life lies ahead

So ask yourself

“what is before me today?”
What can I accomplish now?

& with this mindset
You can accomplish & grow in life

Thank you God
For the time you give me
To pray, to learn
To talk to You

Thank you God
For giving me the gift
Of my relationship with you
