Just this morning i read something from rav shimshon pincus where he said that timhon levav, the last of the al cheit's is the worst one. It's a desensitising of the heart so that you can no longer feel when something is pas nicht, when it is unjewish. I think that is what happens if we allow oursleves to look around everywhere all the time...

(my humble understanding of the issue...)

beautiful pshat!
thanks for sharing that

there are a few answers on a few differrent levels

but thaey are all trye

first of all a non jew is better than a non frum jew in being able to explain this

i will begin with a story

several years ago

i was working with a non jew

as we were doing our work

a frum woman strutted past the 2 of us in a very triggering way (nebach  she is not my problem)

i at that point turned away

the fellow said

hey i saw you didnt want to look at her

i said "thats true"

he asked me why

i said she is not mine

he continued to say

he notices young boys that wait for the light

on a busy street either look down or turn around to avoid looking into the passing cars

he was an off duty cop

he said he noticed a 13-14 year old boy

turnned around not too look at a convertible roof top down full of beachgoers

they were lauging at the kid

but he wouldnt raise his eyes

here goes

"I KNOW WHY THE JEWSARE THE CHOSEN PEOPLE"

i will try to adress more about this good question in the future

Simple, yet brilliant.  I would've probably given some long dreyed out answer about how it's objectifying women yada yada yada. 4 words is all you needed! Powerful!

ok

another lesson

every "look" hurts you wether you realize it or not

every single one makes a little picture on your hard drive

by over looking you dont deaden the brain cells

ask tiger woods if overlooking helped him

vigam haneffesh lo timaley

you cen never see enough

i wonder if the MO crowd  (sorry i am just wondering)

thank you honest mouse and bards

what im understanding from the mouse
is that its like the timtum halev of eating shkotzim and remasim
those who dont fight it are no longer sensitive to it

so for us every exposure is deadly
for them its less so

although Im hearing from bards that he disagrees
perhaps a middle ground
introducing my theory of relativity (Im no Einstein)
as bards said everything has an impact on the hard drive (neshoma)
but its relative to the amount of exposure you had
the more exposure the less you feel the impact
the less exposure the more you feel it.

back to the question
so isnt that what he was asking?
wouldnt it be better to be desensitized that way it wont affect you?

the answer then is NO!
I'd rather be alive and sensitive
then dead and insensitive!
As long as we are fighting it, we are still alive!
our neshoma is still ticking
(takes a licking but keeps on ticking!)

beautifully put gzm! i would just clarify that my understanding of rav shimshon pincus was not that it causes less damage but rather that you aren't sensitive to the damage that it is causing, you dont realise how far you are from the ribono shel olam at that stage. and as you beautifully put, since our whole tachlis in life is to get closer to Hashem, it is definately better to be senstive to it!

Whereas cutting into the flesh of a dead man is not as painful as to a live person. As long as the person is still alive the wound has a chance of healing.

Thank God we are still ALIVE!!!!
