LLife happens. We step on people's toes and we also get our toes stepped on. But Yosef, irrelevant to if you should be pro zingers or against, you can risk falling if you let it become personal. I'm not saying that anyone took any of this personally, just that if anyone does its not good. Also not saying that this was so major to elicit such a response. Just want to put out there that in the end we're all working toward similar goals... it's important to not get caught up. It can lead to a slip or fall even if we are right in being frustrated.

Things are so backward sometimes, that the person is praised for saying something sharp,
and putting someone down with wit. Is this a Torah value? Perhaps he should get a karma point.
Unbelievable.
Bad enough he said it. But then to praise him for it?!

To clarify, my praise was for his delivery. I wasn't commenting on his content. However, even from being on the forum a short time it's clear that his comments weren't intended as a put down. My reaction when I read it was, "wow I really need to get a copy of the white book, because I want to be serious about recovery." It's ok to get some occasional sharp mussar. I do apologize if my comments were insulting. I guess I just assumed you understood his comments the same way as me.

Shua, it was written to me, how am I not supposed to take it personally?
And the meaning was quite clear, that if I want to be serious about breaking free/recovering,
which apparently I'm not, despite taking 11 positive steps, outlined in my thread,
then I would read that book and already know what HALT stood for.
Cord is a truly a great guy who gives of his time and is quite helpful.
He has even directly helped me immensely by setting something up for me.
But that post was out of line, nonetheless.
Shua, it bothered me, but I let it go and ignored it.
But then when I saw that he was being praised for it, I felt I had to respond.

II don't know if he's a great guy or not....probably not. But he will tell you that he thinks that you reading the white book is a far more important step towards your recovery than the 11 steps you have taken so far.

And those 11 steps are great, and you should continue. Was my post too strong? Perhaps. My apologies. CanI I say that I won't do it again? No. But I do feel bad that you were hurt and I'm sorry. My opinion, however, remains the same.

A whole day later...
Today is going to be a great day too.
Where did everybody go?
3 full weeks clean!
Have a good Shabbos.
Made a list of things on my 90-day thread, and it's WAY more than 11...it's 34 or more.
Nervous about making the shavua.
Maybe, I'll wait until Sunday....think it over more.

Hatzlacha! I never tried the shvua either. It seems like a basic level of yiras shomayim is needed for it to be effective, which I fear I don't have.
Good Shabbos!

Good Shabbos!

I'm on the TaPHSiC Shvua for 39 days sober, it kept me so even when i had a slip it didnt end up in a fall.

The idea of TaPHSiC Shvua/Method is basically a way of self-control, by the fall having an immediate effect on ourselves, have a look here for the full program, i would recommend the best the Double Fence Method.

LOL Hatzlocho in all your doings!

WSB, what are your 3 steps?
step 1: what you must do before acting out, or else suffer the big kanas of step 3
step 2: what is your small kanas?
step 3: what is your big kanas?
------------
Once I get this all figured out, I want to make the shavua...even today!
Yeter hara, is working hard to delay or forget about it.
I wrote my 3 step ideas on my 90-day thread,
but there has been some uncertainty if they are good ones.
Yaakov (the founder of GYE) said that 10 min. exercise is a good idea as part of step 1,
but it will be very hard to do that...if I am about to sin/act out late at night...
and that step 3 should be done within 48 hours of failing...
so 2 weeks in a row cleaning for Shabbos isn't a good step 3,
but one Shabbos cleaning may not be enough to stop me...
so there is confusion and inactivity.
I need some help with the steps, so I can start already...today.

What did you decide for all the steps and HOW did you decide what to choose?

Also, Shem HaShem, yes or no?
Bigger deal if yes, so more likely to take it seriously and not fail,
but bigger deal if I don't fulfill the shevua somehow...
(we are always/normally told to avoid shevuas for exactly this reason).

Re: Group 196 08 Jan 2017 18:54 #302532

So, my son got an electronic, credit card version of Monopoly.
But, when can we ever play it? It's a long game and it can't be used on Shabbos.
Well, last night we played until pretty late...2 games.
He loved it...I enjoyed the quality time with him...and I'm thinking back on it now,
that just a few short months ago, this wouldn't have happened, because I would
race to the streaming stupids...after 72 minutes of course....but closed off and alone
nonetheless. This is a huge improvement.

WWhat do you mean by closed off and alone nonetheless? Do you still feel closed off and alone?

HHey guys here's my update. I am at 14 days and never got around to renew my shvua among other things, and I slipped. Gotta daven now but as precaution among other things, gonna post at least once a day till I reach a month - shabbos and Friday not included, I.e. don't need to post twice for both those days, just once is sufficient.

Re: Group 196 08 Jan 2017 23:21 #302561

In the past, I would wait 72 minutes, but then disappear...plug in and tune out.
Malava Malka plugged in...not spending any time with family or anyone.

The point of my post was to celebrate the great difference now.
I spent over 4 hours playing the new electronic credit card Monopoly with my son,
Motzei Shabbos. I didn't even feel like I was missing something (my alone plugged in time...
after a whole Shabbos away from it).
It's a well known fact that all cigarette smokers who are real smokers/addicts, usually
smoke their first cigarette immediately after Shabbos is over...72 minutes MAX.

Hi Yosef

This is what im doing, but you should check what works best for you, as probably know yourself - what type of things work best.
1) Surf the GYE forum for 15 Min / Listen to one of the Shmiras Einayim Hotline for 15 Min.
2) Post / Private Chat / Email about my drives & urges, helped last time.
3) Say a full Sefer of Tehilim.
If i fall afterwards i give 50 bucks to Tzedoko (light Knas).
If i do not do any of the above and fall i'll pay 500 bucks to Tzedoko (heavy Knas).

The reason i chose these actions is because i mostly fall by my computer at work, so i cant take shower or jogging a half an hour in middle of work (dont ask why i could watch porn - coz you all know the answer! ).... and the Tehilim one is for when i feel it outside of work.

Hatlacha and keep us u/d.
