But at the same time, 'when zaidy was young' how big was the yetzer hara for arayos? Obviously it was big, but its only relatively recently that its balooned out of control.

There were no forums where this could be discussed, so I wouldn't know of others. Maybe I was the only one with the big YH (and it was quite as big as anything of today, - or even bigger).

This yetzer hora is nothing new. One of the kinnos from tisha b'av mention the fact that bachurim were going to batei zonah. Taavas nashim is nothing new.

Like you said before though, before the internet, porn was harder to access for your average person. You actually had to walk into the store and buy a magazine/movie from a person. There was a shame factor that prevented people from being nichshol.

Perhaps because there were fewer triggers around (magazines, advertisements, movies etc.) people with addictive tendencies had less of an issue...?

I once heard from a big tzadik that we will have zechus of bringing moshiach because we are the first generation that had to deal with this yetzer hora without the shame being there to prevent us from sinning.

I'm not a zaidy yet and won't be for a while. But in also old enough that there was no Internet or cell phones when I was young. And I had a very sheltered youth and didn't even know what p*** was. I probably didn't see my first p*** until I was well into my 20's. but that didn't stop me from getting into the trouble I did because my problems were and still are mainly with real life people. And that's probably the way it always was until recently. The Internet didn't cause this problem although it makes access so much easier.
