To the admin, I am sorry if there is already a posting on this topic of TaPhSiC vows but I couldn't find the kind that I was looking for, namely:
I am going to write out the shevua, specifically, a Double-Fence Taphsic shevua, word for word that I plan on making.
Don't worry about feedback on the actual knas that I created, I am going to be working with it until I find the right one for me, I am just looking for feedback on the actual wording of everything.
So here it is, word for word as I plan to read it right off the page, exactly as it appears, verbatim, once I get some feedback.
This is not valid until I speak it out verbally, and once I do it will only be valid for the time that I have specified, and once the time has expired, the shevua will be finished and there will be no further obligations of that specific shevuah ever again.
Word for word, what I plan on saying is:
I hereby make a shevua in the name of Ado-Nai that if I am motzei zera levatala, that is discharging semen in vain at any point between the hours of 10:00 until 22:00 that is from 10 am in the morning until 10 pm that night, from between the dates of 9th of October at 10:00 am until 10:00 pm on the night of the 15th of October – that I will do ONE of the following depending on which one is applicable.
1. If I motzi zera l'vatala before reading a portion of the GYE advice or the GYE attitude handbook for 15 minutes, hereby called “the reading” which means a normal level of intensity, concentration, or focus of reading, meaning if I don't spend exactly 15 minutes of pure intense reading time, then that is still a valid reading, as long as I spend 15 minutes being somewhat involved in the act of “the reading” then that will count as having done the reading – Then I will say the first 20 tehillim of sefer tehillim, which does not mean reading every single word perfectly, but I have nevertheless read most of the words of the tehillim as I would do in the same style if I were saying them for any other purpose such as saying them as part of davening, or saying them in the merit of a sick person or the like, and not necesserily knowing the translation – within 72 hours of acting out. I will not have to do this task if I forget that I made this shevua.
However
If I am motzi zera l'vatala after reading the handbook in the manner specified above then I will only need to say the first 5 tehillim of sefer tehillim, again, in the normal manner of reading, meaning reading them as I would do in the same style and intensity if I were saying them for any other purpose such as saying them as part of davening, or saying them in the merit of a sick person or the like, and not necessarily knowing the translation– within 72 hours of acting out. I will not have to do this task if I forget that I made this shevua.
End of shevua.
I also have a second question: I am nervous about making shevua's and the only experience that I have thus far with shevua's are the gemaras that deal with them in Bava Kama, and Bava Metzia, among others, and when we learned them, they have always come with a disclaimer from the maggid shiur along the lines of, "NEVER EVER EVER actually make any shevua's of any kind, we just don't make them anymore, all we are doing is learning about them but don't don't ever make one. I once even heard of a story from 50 years ago that there was a gabbi that borrowed money from a rich Baal Habayis, for some community purpose, and it was a lot of money, and the gabbi paid it back soon after, but the Baal Habayis forgot to mark that it was paid back, so he later came to came to collect the money and the gabbai said that he had paid it back already, so what are you talking about, so they went to beis din, who had to make a psak that since the gabbi was modeh b'miktzas, he would have to make a shevua D'oraysa that he paid it back already, if the Baal Habayis insisted onit. The baal habayis said that he will press for a shevua, so the gabbai said that he would rather pay back the money (again!) rather than make a shevua, even though he was so very sure that he paid it all back. So he paid back all the money out of his own pocket (and the amount was likely more than he would earn in 10 years of work)
The story ended with the Baal Habayis finding record of the repayment, and so he was so impressed at the honesty, and yiras shamayim of the gabbai, that he donated a huge amount to the gabbai's community.
My question then is that how can I even attempt making a shevua after that story? I mean was the gabbai crazy? Why wouldn't he make a shevua if he was so sure?
