Chaim R here.

Have you been thinking of this?  Don't forget lest Duvid Chaim come after you (just kidding).

I have been thinking of this over Shabbos.

When I said thank you to my host, Was I a giver or a taker?

When I told my hosts kid a story, Was I giver or a taker?

When I passed the food to the guy next to me,  Was I a giver or a taker?

When I got angry at someone for something that he should not have done (really, not the other 600 times I got angry when I should not have), Was I a giver or a taker?

I'm still thinking about it.

That IS something to think about. I'll add that it's not black and white. Yes, I do find myself giving in order to take. I might read my kids a book just to get them off my back, or clear my host's table because I want them to think I'm a mentch - but I can honestly say there's an element of real giving there too. Selfishness is a driving force, but I believe our motivations are a mix of colors along the spectrum.

Honesty.

100% honesty.

Waiting for appreciation is not 'giving'.

But 'perfectionism' is NOT a healthy choice.

Can we flip over from being a Taker & turn into a Giver in a moment?

Impossible!!

95% Taker = 5% Giver

90% Taker = 10% Giver

85% Taker = 15% Giver

As long as I can avoid being 100% Taker.......

V'nahapoch Hu. This is the kind of question I find intriguing and expect you to disregard.

Do you have any clarity on how to answer the question?

The clarity must come from within, but there are intellectual questions involved.

PerhapsI on today's call.

The answer will be that it depends on our mindset.
