it seemed the meaning was rather straightforward but for those who like making simple things complicated, here's to you.
Green tree signifies life, as opposed to a dead tree. A person can have a heart of stone or a heart of flesh, as it says in Yechezkel, והסירותי את לב האבן ונתתי לכם לב בשר. Reb Nachman says that if you hear song from a rasha it damages your yiras shomayim. The birds brought by a metzora were symbolic of the two states of speech, fallen speech, i.e. lashon hara, and rectified speech. Hence one bird was killed and the other released. Birds allude to speech as they chirp constantly. (L"M 1:3).
So if you want proper speech and pure song you need a 'living' heart.
next time you see a Chinese guy in Uman, ask him pshat...
