Good Shabbos 1daat, great to hear you're ok, keep trucking and talking - to Hashem and to us!

I'm back from my trip to see my son.  So we had a heart to heart.  So much came out.  How he dealt with my being monstrous when he was little.  Why he stopped relating to me.  I listened without interrupting.  It was really painful to hear.  He was not at all angry or spiteful.  Just telling me how hard it was for him and how he had to deal with it, and how he found his way.  He has so become his own self, and so knows who he is.  And all this time I've been treating him like the kid who's got problems that I have to fix.  So out would come my will and controlling.  And so we talked about it.  And he told me in no uncertain terms that he would have no more of it.  And I tried not to weep and burden him with guilt for being so honest with me.  It was about a 21/2 talk.  It's not all kissy face and made up.  But we were clear with each other that we love each other, and that we will find a way. 

This is what my recovery is about right now.  Thanking Hashem for the heartache, because I needed to be brought down a lot of pegs.  God willing I'll be able to stay here.

1daat, it's great you were able to speak things out with your son. might not be pretty on the face of things but now that it's out in the open you can move forward with your relationship with him on the correct terms. i am happy for you.

Wow. Your chat with your son is gonna help bring Moshiach (fathers to the hearts of the sons; sons to the hearts of the fathers etc). And I think it's gonna put your own work on a whole new madreiga. I am so so so impressed with the kishkas it took for you to get through that kind of conversation. (And it isn't so shabby re your son, either.)  All I can say is, wow.
