And, what would would we ask "Mr Fried, would you like to be our poster boy?"

Nah- not him himself,  somehow I  don't think that would go ovr well

I had in mind that maybe just yankel would be our poster boy and when GYE website  loads the song- huf yankel don't give up- should play

Hello to all the holy chevrah,

I'm still on "the wagon" (a little AA Big Book lingo there ) however I'm a dry drunk and for numerous reasons I feel that I'm at the precipice -

kol holam kulo gesher tzar meod/ the whole world is a narrow bridge.....the main thing is ......lo lfacheid klal/have no fear at all.....

Question:doesn't it say in Tehilim, ashrei odom mfacheid tomid/ fortunate is he who is in a constant state of fear...?

How do we reconcile these two seemingly contradictory ideas. I'm on a  "narrow bridge" a tightrope yet I'm not supposed to have no fright.....I wonder!

Here's a thought........a man is walking a tightrope over the raging Colorado  river -category V rapids underneath! - he falls he is dead -yet he his without fear! Why?
cause he is wearing a live vest tethered to the tightrope with a cord that is impossible to rip!!!!!

The question I ask myself is, why dear  noorah  do you FEAR as u  cross your "narrow bridge"? Is it perhaps that noorah isn't  wearing his " life-vest"? Is it maybe that noorah's life vest is not connected on High?

I think I know the answer...........

Noorah the analogy of a tightrope walker is perfect. אשרי אדם מפחד תמיד is talking about the seichel. It means that you have the seichel to always be on guard and never take anything for granted. Don't forget that you're walking on a tightrope, because if you do... But it doesn't mean to be fearfull C"V, because if you're fearful then you know where that can lead to. You can't walk a tightrope very well if you're fearfull. You need to have Bitachon, there's no other way. ד' לי ולא אירא

Hey, you're talking about the GYE logo - the guy on the tightrope! See Chizuk e-mail #480 on this page for more on these Yesodos that you guys are touching on!

Hey!!!
I've just discovered another GEM!
Not sure why I missed your thread till now Noora, it is phenomenal!

Mefachaid refers to not being comlacent, i.e. assuming that the status quo is ok and is here to stay. That was the mistake of R' Zecharya ben Avkulis that the gemara brings on that pasuk... he was worried about perpetuating an error in the halachos of karbonos, but did not realize that he needs to think if there will be a beis hamikdosh altogether! He assumed that status quo was ok and was going to last forever (heard this p'shat from a sefardi Rav, a brilliant shiur... I'm bln going to email it to you , R Guard.) BTW, he says that there was nothing wrong with throwing out Bar Kamtza, that that is not the point of the gemara at all, but rather the point regarding R' Z. B. A. is. A careful reading of the G. and Rashi backs him up, and after all Bar Kamtza must have been one of the biggest reshayim of the time (consider what he ended up doing...) so would WE want him at our chasuna?

kutan

Dov,
thanks for your post on how you handle Manhattan. I learn from every one of your posts. and flattered that we are 'lands-leight' ( I grew up in Queens too).

Battleworn, your poking fun at the YH is priceless. If I win the upcoming Mega lotto, the billboard that follows the p___  one is going to have your avatar, and your post. THAT will really rock the place!

and R' Berdichev, you get the next billboard. Avatar, capslock, and all!

um, bli neder.

Pshat in Rebbin
People on tightropes need to stay focused on the end of the rope, the goal......  And yes  people on tightropes don't think ........about falling.

I think this is the lesson from the Russian  tightrope walker in Siberia that Guard refrenced above and mentioned in the email.

Kutan thanks for your kind words and thanks for your insight,

Achron achron choviv morinu Rav Battle shlita

In regard to the tightrope story that was referenced above, I have merited to hear the story second-hand. As I heard the story, the tightrope walker, because he was out of practice, fell several times till he was able to walk all the way across the rope. R' Mendel related that the the tightrope walker didn't simply fall from the rope and get hurt though. Instead, he fell like a professional. As he described his falling similar to a cat that falls on all fours, he fell in a way that he was always able to get back up.

To me, more than the story itself (which is truly inspiring in general), is this point: Falling happens. Sometimes it can't be prevented. The main thing is that when we do fall (cv"s) we do it like a pro. A professional, one who isn't hurt by the fall, can always get up.

Just a thought...

Here I am a few days before Rosh Hashana struggling with this nasty beast, not sure if I'm heading up or down

I once drove thru a thick fog on a pitch black night on a dark mountain highway! The fog was  as thick as a split- pea soup, couldn't see a foot in front of me and couldn't even pull off to the shoulder either for I didn't know if there was a shoulder,  the only think I remember is the eerie frightenning feeling of not knowing if I'm going up-hill or down-hill, even though I knew intellectually that I was going up the mountain for I had traveled this highway many times!

All I knew was that there was no option but to forge ahead! And forge ahead I did!

I guess the when climing the "har Hashem" "the mountain of Hashem" sometimes it gets real dark and foggy and you can't even tell that you are actually going up the mountain due to the "fog"!
All that's left for me to do, is keep the pedal to the metal and forge ahead,  for pulling off to the side of the road is not an option, no matter how strong my desire is!
....... one day @ a time until...............DAYLIGHT,  WHEN ALL FOG WILL DISIPATE AND THE SUN WILL SHINE FOREVER!

(Just hope I don't run out of gas beforw then )
Love to all
