Here is my follow-up letter to the Rosh Yeshiva:

Motzei Shabbos, 19 Kislev, 5770
December 6, 2009

Dear Rav *****, Shlita,

I am deeply grateful to the Rosh Yeshiva for giving me time last night to discuss “Guard Your Eyes,” www.guardyoureyes.org, a vital resource for Frum people who have fallen prey to Internet pornography addiction.  Also, thank you so much for agreeing to speak with and/or meet with the Guard Your Eyes administrator, a true Tzadik and Mezakeh HaRabbim, who has given up his Parnasa as a computer programmer in order to help people faced with what is likely the Nisayon of our generation.

Enclosed is my letter, which was published in the October 2009 issue of ******.  Also enclosed is a full page ad that I placed in the November 2009 issue of ******* (a half page ad appears in the December 2009 issue).

If the Rosh Yeshiva knows of anyone who needs help in this area, they can contact me by e-mail at ******.

Sincerely and with great appreciation,

Maybe the emphasis, or additional emphasis, should be on "educating" the roshei yeshivos and rabbonim who have no internet knowledge.

If so, how should/would this be done ?

We could polish up the handbooks for this purpose... That would be a good start... (ultimately, I think GYE should come out with a handbook specially designed for Mechanchim, askanim, mashgichim, roshei yeshivos, rabbanim, etc... To help them learn the realities of today's world, the realities of this disease, and what really WORKS, for all stages of addiction, and different age groups, husbands, wives of addicts, etc...

One day, one day... OY, so much to do. Who will help us? We need LOTS of money and lots of talented people to join up... (oh, and lots of time too  ).

So this Rosh Yeshiva gave me a call just as I was about to run out to Chanukah party - and I had my hat and jacket on (symbolic!  )... Obviously, I put the party plans on hold for right then, locked the door and spoke with him for a half hour. I outlined all the things we offer, and how klal yisrael is in desperate need of something like this, told him about the 11-14 year old kids who are addicted today and don't even know it's not allowed. I warned that if Klal yisrael doesn't wake up, we'd be raising a whole generation of addicts. I told him that it's hard doing it all alone and that I needed a whole team to help with web-development, publishing, advertising, PR, hotlines, and with answering everyone. I asked if he could provide us with a letter of support, and he asked me how he'd get it to me. I told him that a hand-written letter could be scanned and sent to me by e-mail. He asked me for my e-mail address and he also told me that he'd ask the people in the office to show him the website... I also told him that in order to get a whole team to work with me, I needed some serious funding and asked if he possibly had connections with some "nedivei am" who would understand the importance of fighting this battle. I explained how every mechanech and mashgiach today needs to be equipped with the tools to know how to deal with this machla...

All in all, he seemed very impressed and he fully agreed to the pressing need for our work to grow. (He himself told me that I need a "team" to work with me, even before I explained HIM how right he is about that). I explained him the steps of the handbook, and how they work in progressive order for all levels. I explained the nature of the addiction. I even got into the 12-Steps, which he thought were influenced by Christianity, but by the time we finished the conversation he was convinced that they were a vital tool in combating this disease (I explained him Rabbi Twerski's view on this, as mentioned at the recent Agudah convention, and how all the steps can be found in Chazal, etc..)

It was a great talk, and he sounds like someone who is "emor me'at va'asei harbe". Although he didn't promise anything concrete, I have a feeling he will be a strong force backing our work.

A very special thank you to Kedusha, for arranging this phone call!

If anyone else on this forum has connections with Roshei yeshivos, famous Magidei Shiurim, Askanim, Gedolim, etc... and can speak to them and/or get us a "phone appointment" with them, we would be happy to talk to them and explain what we do and how important it is to Klal Yisrael today. You could have a zechus in hundreds of people's teshuvah - if through that talk that YOU arrange, we are somehow able to grow - and more and more people find out that there's hope and help on the little Teivah called GYE, floating along in a Mabul of Taivah.

I am crying now over the beauty of Hashem's Hashgacha. Even with the tremendous hishtadlus of Kedusha in arranging it, we can see how if the call had come in just a few seconds later, Guard would have been gone to the party. Who knows if the RY would have had the time/nerve etc. to call back?

AND Hashem orchestrated it this way to SHOW US that He's pulling those strings. It was mamash seconds away from being a miss!!!

DUVIE, DO YOU HEAR?  IT'S A LOUD

A & W MOMENT!!!

oh, sorry, the baby's asleep....

Yes, that was tremendous Hashgacha.  This is the kind of call that you don't want to miss, if at all possible.

I wrote a follow-up letter to the Rosh Yeshiva:

Dear Rav *****, Shlita,

Thank you so much for taking the time yesterday to call and be Mechazeik the administrator of Guard Your Eyes (GYE), www.guardyoureyes.org, an essential resource for Frum people who have fallen prey to Internet pornography addiction.  As I mentioned in my previous letter, the GYE administrator is a true Tzadik and Mezakeh HaRabbim, who has given up his Parnasa as a computer programmer in order to help people faced with what is likely the Nisayon of our generation.

Two of the many free resources offered by the GYE website are the Guard Your Eyes Handbook and the Guard Your Eyes Attitude Handbook.  For the Rosh Yeshiva’s convenience, I am enclosing a copy of each.

Notwithstanding all that he has accomplished, the GYE administrator seeks to expand Guard Your Eyes in order to reach as many people as possible who have fallen to this addiction and have nowhere to turn.  It would be a tremendous Chizuk if the Rosh Yeshiva would write a letter of support for this unique and extremely important organization.  The GYE administrator can be reached at eyes.guard@gmail.com.

I wish the Rosh Yeshiva and Rebbetzin a Freilichen Chanukah!

Sincerely and with great appreciation,

********

I heard a mp3 from r pinkus zt"l, about the internet in HIS days....dialup. I though it would be funny to hear him talk of the dangers of waiting 10 minutes to download one picture. but everything he said was fully revelant to DSL lines also! It was scary. he was not merely talking for his technlogical dor, but he forsay exactly what the extent of this koach hayetzer is.  Anyway he brought an anon. Zohar that reffers to this dor as "Va'ad Diznus"

Biur Hadevarim: A Va'ad is an asifah of chachamim, The chachamim of our Dor will unite in the persuit of znus! Technological advancements won't merely be for supply/ demand. Rather the demand will be to 'quench' one's lust for znus in some form or another. and the worlds brainpower will unite to advance this cause.  You-know why eveyone has ta'aynos on NASA for being a waste of money, why congress would cut their billion dollar busget is they diidn't find some way to spend it...b/c they don't help advance this cause. Hafla Vapeleh! Nasa has conducted astrnomical studies that are beyond the dreams of what earlier astrologists could have expected to be one day descovered! Despite the great chachmah of astrology that they have shown...no-one cares. You know why? because we only want our days minds to be engadged in the advanceent of znus! that's all we see valuable, even at the expence of recognised areas of the sciences.

practicly how does this realy affect me. Going back 80 years, if you where about to embark on a ship to 'America'. The thought on the forefront of your mind will be, 'How will i be shomer torah um itzvot...shabbos kashrus...what will be with chinuch?" And because you have already recognised this nisayon, and made a mental note of the perils that lay ahead, you can NOW attempt to brace yourself for impact. But without such a mindset, that first shabbos you worked "...pikuach nefesh, I would starve...bla bla bla....another excuse". You'll fall, crash and burn, before you eve realise that you'r not shomer shabbos.
In todays Dor we need to know that this is our nisayon. True we may keep shabbos (but how many of us could be tested on hilchos borer, chazara, hatmana, losh, melabain.....oh you can't. then how do you lift a finger on shabbos? shogeg? you still have to pay for all those shogegim!). And true we have no end of kosher products and restaurants, both coke and pepsi are kosher, whichever you prefer! (But how many cruddy hechsherim line the shelvs in the store. and do we realy know that the guy behind the name is competant, doeas he actualy know what that 'big moving metal aparatus' is in the production line he certifies) But rabosai, how many of us wake up in the morning knowing that the primary nissayon that I will have is in tznius/histaklus/hirhurim/hz"l/or worse. Hello!!! This is our nisayon! We'd never work on shabbos, and we'd never buy candies wthout a hechsher, because that's not our nisayon. But THIS ONE IS. An we have to recognise that the world is working at breakneck speed to be 'mekareiv hezekah' even if we can't think of a new 'mazik', we have to be 'mechadeish' a new shtick in the old one.

This is our dor, this is our nisayon, whatchya gonna do about it!?      And if you don't join the fight (milchemes hayetzer)  you'r gonna be looked upon by history as the menuvak who bought a zonah for every member of his family (family plan with any decent phone), and called it a chanukah present too.
