Let's put aside porn and masturbation for a second and think about the fact that the secular world is drenched with and obsessed with sexuality.

Walk by a mewstand or a checkout counter or take a look at the so-called "respectable print media." The only newspaper that really eschews discussing these issues either in print or pictures ( except on the weekend, when it has a fashion supplement) is the Wall Street Journal, which has great news, op ed and cultural coverage, but a second rate sports section. I gave up the NY Times, which I had read since childhood, because of its far left & anti Israel political agenda and cultural coverage which evolved into a daily version of the Village Voice. I never read the Daily News, but the op ed and sports pages of the NY Post partially compensate for what can only be described as a daily version of such rags as People Magazine. I would never bring it into the house, but I have to admit that I have been reading the Post for so many years that the semi-clad female pictures that are there more often than not, (and columns that are in print examples of Lashon Hara and Recilus) have long ceased to serve as a trigger. The only secular magazines that we have in the house are Commentary and the Weeekly Standard. I think that the only answer for those of us who "need" a daily paper is to not bring the garbage from the garbage can of the street into the house.

Once upon a time, one could go to a movie and watch a television prorgam. I have been reading reviews and articles about the decline of the ratings system long enough to realize that the rating system is a joke to the extent that what was formerly X is now cut and pasted to the point where it somehow becomes an R rated film, and that the so called "family hour' has evaporated, as the networks try to push the moral envelope to compete with the real junk on cable and Netflix.

Years ago, as a young BT, I thought that someone without a TV set lived on another planet. Today, I can see the necessity for a radio, but TV , except for certain documentaries, certain movies and sports ( albeit between commercials), projects a set of values that are completely contrary to the values of Kedoshim Tihiyu.

On a sunday afternoon, during this time of the eyar, especially when we have no plans and I am not in the mood to work out , I will watch football. However, during a time out, I will channel surf , which with our TV , will be the networks and basic cable. There is no doubt that just surfing between plays can be a trigger for a person addicted.
