Let me tell you a story that may help you:

There was once a beggar who sat on the side of the road for many years. He collected money from the people who travelled along his road, earning a meager living.
One day, a kind man who was passing walked up to him and said: "I wish I could give you money but I have none. However, have you ever checked to see what's in the box you're sitting on?". The beggar was surprised; he had been sitting on this box for many years, ever since he could remember, and yet he had never thought to look inside it.
He opened up the dusty lid and to his utter amazement, discovered that it was full of treasure...

Love, your brother

Many guys here with history of varying degrees and flavors of abuse.
The real you is your neshama.  Since you're here, that tells me it's probably caked over with some shmutz so it's a little hard to get to.  But I assure you it's there and it's as bright as the summer sun.
Care to share some more of your story?

By the way, welcome!
Alex

Wishing for the real me,

Have you ever discussed your situation with anyone? Maybe it would be good for you to write your story here anonymously?

yeh, the only way to find the "real you" is to have an army of friends behind you helping you clean the dirt encrusted on your pure neshama, so that it can shine the real you again. that is why you came to GYE, that's what is giving me the strength. unfortunately it wasnt enough for me to just trust in Hashem, call it a lack of emuna, but i guess thats why we all sin in the first place. forgive me for being a little harsh, sinned or not, i dont know your situation, you mentioned abuse, please elaborate, write ur story so we can band together and help each other,

Welcome aboard 'Wishing".

Your "real me" isn't lost, it's hiding inside you, trying to break free. The fact that you are here and seeking help shows that your "real me" is waking up.

There are so many people here who have gone through so much in their lives, and have turned to all types and "flavors" of lust in a desperate effort to make ourselves feel better. But we all have one thing in common, we want to get rid of the lust and get our pure Neshamos back. Sharing on the forum, and reading and using the tools in the handbooks, are some of the methods that will help you.

One of the best things you can do is share as much of your story as you can. I found that just writing it down really helped me to organize my thoughts and come to terms with many of my feelings. And if there is stuff that you are scared to share in the open forum, you can eventually find someone here that you trust and converse with them by PM. I did that and it was the best thing I ever did.

As far as being a "hero member" that has to do with how many posts you have made, i think it takes 500 to get to "hero". So post away and you can get there quickly. But in my book, anyone who has the guts to sign up here and ask for help is already a hero!
