An addict has a different conception of time to other people. That's why when an addict goes a week without acting out he feels like it's been 10 years already and he starts talking to others like he's an old-timer. Other people (especially non addicts) looking at that will think some things he says is insane because it feels like yesterday that he did this or that.

That's definitely one thing that's got me a lot of times. When I get a few weeks I start to feel like I've been sober since forever and I can't understand why I was making such a big fuss about nothing the previous week and I don't need to work it as hard. In truth it's not nothing, it's a very serious illness, patient baffling and powerful.
