The famous idea is that bnai yisrael left mitzrayim at the exact second that they had to, if they would have been there one minute longer, they wouldve been sent to the 50th level of tumah, never to come back from it. a question some ask, and perhaps this answer i heard from somewhere, but i can't remember who, is how is this possibly true? the macos had been going on for a year now, they weren't really "practicing slaves" anymore, the egpytians just sat by idly while the Jews destroyed their god. how could it be they wouldve been so influenced at that point to descend even lower into tumah? and one answer is, is that yes, davka now it would be more of a problem. when they were oppressed by the egyptians, they were involved in tumah, but at least they saw, he's the master, im the slave, we are separate. but now, maybe, the Jews could be COMPLACENT. now he can sit back and soak in some culture. not busy round the clock, not beaten down. davka when we get complacent and comfortable in the settings were in, (especially in mitzrayim) is it the most dangerous. we see in history, when jews were in ghettos and persecuted, there wasn't much intermingling with the outside culture, not much intermarriage. its only when we get comfortable.
i know for me, in this struggle, lots of my problems come after i have a short clean streak and think, oh, i have this under control. its fine. i have to remember, this yetzer is always trying to be my master, never be complacent, and never think, i have already shechted it like a korban its done. always keep growing
