More than half the power of "their" music is the sexual energy hidden inside.

To any addict who values his sobriety, I would switch to Carlbach.

with all do respect, what makes you say that someones "Krum" hidden energy, is better than the possibility of goyish "hidden energy"?

The "krummest" jews music is better than the "heiligste" goys music.
Music shtams from the neshama. A jews neshama is always Heilig.
What a goys neshama is made of - well you don't want to go there.

TO - I think there are several issues...one is the actual sound of the music,  the feeling you get while listening to it, and of course, the lyrics.

Another aspect is on a deeper level - It seems to be a bit of a controversial topic, but there is a concept that music comes from deep in a person's soul - and so, whatever is deep in that person's souls will seep into the music. Then, that energy in the music touches us on a very deep level in our souls. So, we have to ask, do we want that energy, that stuff, in our souls?

As an aside, the classical composers were not very good people.

I have rabbeim that I'm close to that hold that it's not a problem. However, that is one of the issues that some of the people here are discussing.

I have to agree with you, though - if the sound of "jewish" music is krum, and is the type of sound that has sexual energy, etc - I'd say that's worse.

That's just my opinion, though.

So you're saying that it's better to listen to Billy Joel than to Mozart?  ???

The answer must be that we need to distinguish between Jewish music and music performed by a Jew.

In truth, it may be a true fact that music is very deep and mystical. Chazal tell us the ONLY thing that Achashverosh did not have at his party was music. even though his music probably would have been pretty goyish but he KNEW that music opens the soul and was afraid maybe when the jews soul would be open some hergesh of teshuva would go in and he therefore didn't want to take that chance. So it may be true that music can have a impact on the soul but i dont think we are really on that level to be affected in that way. So i must say each to his own. if music doesnt trigger him then good.

However i find that music has the ability to stick to the brain MUCH easier, i find sometimes that ill have a good few days then all of a sudden my lust starts piping up, seemingly out of nowhere, and then ill think back that i heard a dirty song on the radio. I realized that i must be careful that just because a song doesnt bother me at the time i hear it, but once it gets stuck in the brain its gonna come back to get ya.

A rav once told me that songs have within them the ideas/ thoughts of the composer when he composed the song. So ye... bad energy.

But jewish music is not free of it.... ghangis khan yidden ne1?

Lastly... a trigger is a trigger.... it should be assumed that triggering music is not up for discussion here.... the question is whether simon &  garfunkel singing about liverwurst is gonna be a problem...

Well then we get in to soul issues... so technically a problem. But if its not a trigger... well I guess we'll get to it. If its a trigger... .well u know the answer..

bottom line: listening to pesukim is good listening to all that drivel about love/lust/sex is bad and everything else falls into that airport security category...my humble opinion..

airport security?

I agree. Problem is, there isn't much "everything else" that people would actually enjoy listening to
