still in yeshiva, starting the zman now. I take college classes over bein hazmanim.
Q is, does anyone have experience with internet use for college? I find that I have needed internet for research/reports...but then I'll find a loophole and watch p or look at bad stuff. I have webchaver/gentech, but it's not perfect and If I whitelist then I won't be able to search find new sites which have info that i need.
If anyone has experience in this area, please let me know, even if it's general experience. Thanks!!

Hey so I tried taphsic a couple years ago and it didn't really help...if I have access then in the moment it won't work for me. my gedarim are largely based around that- for ex contracts to not use unfiltered devices, and then even tho there are unfiltered devices floating around my house, I don't use them.

It's a tough situation to be in, I'm also going to be in this situation in a few months and I don't know what's going to be. I tried getting a friend of mine to be my ally on webchaver but he's a secular jew and so he doesn't really care even though he did agree to be my partner. Before that I had my mom set as my ally but that didn't do much either because she also doesn't really care. I think if I set someone good as the chaver then maybe it can help I just don't have access to any such people at the moment. Maybe you do though, and if you do check out some of the filters and accountability services in my signature, they'll add much more accountability and help get rid of loopholes by a lot because they were developed by the same people who created whatever operating system you may use. Also you may already know this but double check to see if your account is the administrator on the computer because if it is you'll have access to many more loopholes. And if it is go and change it to a regular account. This won't do anything weird with your files or affect your internet usage at all, it'll just change the status of the account on the computer.

Yeah it's hard to find the right person to be a chaver. I'd be happy to, if u want. probably best to do it with someone who knows you, like a rebbe, so it'll be a bigger geder.
While the gentech/webchaver helps with a lot, i also struggle with literature p*, which doesn't always get blocked by gentech and a screenshot of which doesn't show up in a webchaver report. 
I just changed my account from administrator to local, but it's not rlly going to help with my current issue...

As a college student with a MacBook, I use the built in block adult websites in apple's settings, and also an app called Freedom, which is meant to block all web distractions for a certain amount of time (from 1 minute to 24 hours, also you can put it on a schedule), e.g. YouTube, social media, "adult" websites. Highly recommend you look into it. Very easy to use.

I have a lenovo laptop. Even with adult websites blocked, theres a million other ways to find shmutz on the internet.
Do u have to pay for Freedom?

I do pay, but I'm pretty sure they have a free option (not sure if its a trial type thing). Truth is there's always a way to find schmutz filtered internet or no. Whole point of the filter is give you the time to make the right choice. 

You can use Microsoft family safety, they have a feature where all of the things you searched for are available for your “family organizer” to see so it might be able to help you with literature p. It also archives all of the websites you visited, even the links of the specific pages you visited on a website, so your family organizer can see and visit those websites themselves. That’s what I have on my Lenovo pc in addition to webchaver and gentech. And it’s free so there’s nothing to lose. I hope this can help.

First of all, have you spoken to TAG yet? (Sorry if I sound like a broken record from other threads but they played a huge role in my recovery.) They work with all the major filters and you can speak openly with them, the technicians are trained and every visitor to a TAG office is strictly confidential.

How broad internet access do you need? Gentech, Techloq and Netspark are the standards for Windows computers and are very good if properly configured (enter TAG here ).

I personally like Netfree. It's an Israeli filter that is available worldwide and is one of the strongest. Every site is reviewed by a human (not a computer) and pictures are automatically blurred out and sent for human review, after which they are either approved or blocked. While Netfree is a fantastic filter, keep in mind it is the most strict which means restrictive. Approvals for sites take anywhere from a minute to a day. 

While it may be inconvenient, sometimes we just need to embrace the restrictiveness. In a perfect world, I wouldn't want internet in my home at all, but since I need it why not allow as little in as possible?

I also went to college and needed broad access for research. But I honestly believe you may be able to make it work with Netfree.

Another good thing about NetFree which you didn't mention, they also check the text so if you would come across inappropriate literature as you were worried about it will be censored out.
