Is it just me or does it bother anyone else how "normal" and "accepted" it has become for people (bochrim, married, w/kids) to watch and openly talk about shows like game of thrones and certain R rated movies? I mean, its one thing if its something people did privately - we all have seen stuff deemed inappropriate - but we are fighting against it.
I once heard something funny b'shem a big rabbi in Israel, I suspect it is either misquoted or a total lie but anywhoo - the claim was that he had said that watching Disney movies was worse than porn because everyone knows porn is bad and wrong and will feel guilty about and try to recover, but Disney movies preach lust and superficial relationships which put all these subliminal messages in our minds which is worse because we don't realize how detrimental it is.
So why are we the bad guys? Why are we the only ones who are demonized? We are the people who are smart enough to recognize your struggle and ultimately our mission...

You're right that it does seem that many people are watching R rated movies, Netflix, and all sorts of other stuff and the truth is that they probably have a lot of work to do. Guard your eyes emails at have even speaking about it.

I think the reason why no one here is talking about it is because it doesn't help us to talk about other people or what's wrong with them. We have to talk about what we have to do to fix ourselves.

We're not.

And neither are they.

my post was not trying to call out anyone or any group of people.
my point was about having to deal with the perceptions of people that someone who has an issue with a certain thing and is working on fixing it - or at least knows its bad and might work on fixing it - that person is a "filthy and poisonous" person. (because lets be honest - all the speeches stuff #internetasifa dont address people and their shimiras einayim - they demonize porn addicts)
just look at the difference the GOT folk and the GYE folk - they talk about their stuff openly, we dont. it shows a different mind set. there is deepening shame vs expanding normalcy - which makes the struggle a lot harder for the shamed.

no - we dont sit in our dorm rooms after coming back from the movies and talk about which actress(es) were showing more than they should (true story, i heard aaaaaall about their experience). we dont walk out of shul talking about going home, chilling with the wife then watching the latest GOT. we discuss our issues privately with others going through the same in a (semi) modest anonymous forum. again - not demonizing anyone. just looking for perspective on how to deal with these notions and thoughts.

Ruminating over the state of affairs or other people is not a luxury I can afford.

I also find it weird to see a Game of Thrones DVD on the same bookshelf as a Shas set in some people's houses. But I found the more I bemoan their state of hypocrisy, the more I authorised my own acting out.

Once again, I am going to reference something in one of Dov's recorded calls. Check the link in my signature. Apologies, brother. I don't know which call specifically it's in, but listening to them all is really not a bad thing.

But he picks up an important point. say guys go to a movie, an action movie with a love scene in it. They come out of the movie. What do you hear? Something like, "Dude, when he shot that truck with a missile and it smashed into that building! That was awesome!"
"Yeah! Man, what mad stunts!"

And I'd be looking at them and think like, What do you mean!? You even noticed any other scene? I liked when the girl... well you get the idea.

We're fixated on the struggle. Addict or not. And therefore we don't understand how someone can go through a scene like that and enjoy the rest of the movie to an even greater extent!
And I also couldn't grasp it. But now I understand.

Most people are normal. And they can see something like that and not spiral into a whirlpool of insanity and continue a three-month binge!!!

But now I understand, slowly. Beyond my scope, it is possible to watch an episode of GOT and not fixate on the porn aspects of it. If you hear people talking about GOT, let me know, do they talk about the sex scenes, or do they talk about the intricacies of the plot? Even not frum people, even not Jewish people! Just plain goyim who enjoy the show! They like the concept, the characters and the story. The sex scene is secondary. It's a bewildering concept to us. But I feel very comforted that I can finally understand, therefore surrender this to God.

Disclaimer: Of course it's assur to watch GOT. It's not the right thing to do. But don't expect everyone to go and masturbate after watching it! Because that's not normal.

But don't fool yourself. Tons of people are constantly fixated on it and that's obvious from all the entertainment sites, all the click bait, and obviously all the porn. There's a reason why Game of Thrones and the like are the way they are. Some people are less fixated cause They don't mind indulging

True. And many that aren't are still in denial, as most of us were too.
