Dov

OK, last pain-in-the-buttock post on this thread (at least about this topic)....(bli neder) :-X :

I asked you 2 questions about how this last giving up of soriety came about. You write about how to get back up onto the horse. But 'getting back up on the horse' can often be a nice-sounding way to say, "it's over, forget about it!". Ooh, there's a great way to ruin one's odds...

By basically ignoring the actual process of the mistakes we made and by not 'having' to face them, list them out clearly, and admit them to others who are not nogeya b'dovor (no pun intended, ontheegdeman!) cuz they are not us...we are doing everything we can do to guarantee we will flop again one day.

That is not surrender, but running harder from the fire. But running from a fire is counterproductive when you or I are the ones on fire! It's Stop - Drop - And Roll time. If all I need is chizzuk, I might as well just go into a mikvah, say ten magical tehillim, and jump up and down on a truck in Yerushalayim singing "Rebbi Nachman, Nachman mei'Uman..." to make all my problems 'just melt away'. Are we just here to make each other feel better? Please, please don't say "yes".....

Want chizzuk? Well, do you know why I am writing this even though somebody is bound to write back something like, "Dov you are an idiot, think you know everything, and why don't you go elsewhere to insult people?"? At least you who have talked with me, probably know that I truly, truly love you . That's why. And to work my 12th step and stay sober, be"H.

Well, our 4th and 5th steps (and the written and shared 1st step) are a routine - a set of tools. Not 'rites of passage'. This is important for me to remember.

Of course we all need to get back up onto the horse! Of course we need to keep on trucking. But we gotta see that G-d is in charge! If we fell, it was for a purpose. We must learn things from it by davka looking deeply at it. Otherwise how is He going to turn the z'donos into zachuyos? Teshuvah me'Ahavah is davka through learning from our aveiros - that is how the mistakes we make lead us to get better. He has a plan for you - I hope you don't run from it. Though addiction is not about the Yetzer Hora nor about Teshuvah - it works the same way.

Sorry if I overdid this.

Hatzlocha!

I am powerless over using and controlling lust. Totally powerless! I am unable to successfully lust like a gentleman, though most people (including Yiden, of course) can. It's not just an aveiro for me - it always eventually ruins my sanity and ly life.

It's great that you have a plan and you know what to work on.
And, I can't say enough good things about taphsic. It's really great you're working with it.

Keep on trucking!

You are not alone.

We are all here with you.

The nature of lust is to take us to cross one line after the next; in the spirit of true addiction.

Join us in the ongoing battle.

So long as you're in the battle you stand a chance.

Devote a certain amount of time each day to working on recovery.

It doesn't happen by itself.

Keep on trucking.

jewish jew

Now I see the Yetzer Horah was wrong big time, I fell and fell hard last night!

It started by searching something gray (not bad but not kosher) and it ended in... but I managed to fight off acting out until the morning (I was awake half the night mixed up and cranky).
By morning i couldn't hold out and went for it big time ruining my "count" (I am not sure if 4 days is called a count)

That is the latest update, now I have to pull myself together and keep on trucking

Bye for now JJ

Mein tayer kind (or einikel), TZ:

Yodati bni yodati, I read and chapp the lingo around here, but when you reach my age (quite over the hill, biz 120), you will also opt for a senior scooter instead (do they come with monstuh wheels?).

BTW mein kind/einikel, when Zaidy was young, we used the trolly and push-carts (oy did they make a racket!).

Bottom line is like Dr. Suess would say, "Marvin K. Mooney, you can go by plane, you can go by train... Just keep (whatever)ing".

Thanx for bearing with me (as this week's Parsha says - Respect your elders),

Shabbat Shalom

Gevura Shebyesod

Hello Eishhatorah and welcome aboard!

As you can tell by now you are far from alone here. I am in my 40s, married with kids, and I too have been dealing with SSA since my early teens. I never acted out with another person, but I fantasized and m*** incessantly and later on got hooked on internet g** p*** as well. I never even entertained the thought that it would be possible to stop until about a year ago when Hashem led me to this wonderful site and I discovered that I was not alone, and that it was indeed possible to cope with this Nisayon and live a Torah-true life.

I totally identify with your struggle in Yeshiva, i remember those days well. To have held back for 7 months...I barely ever managed a week or 2.

As for marriage, i can confirm what the "other" Eish said, marriage alone will not make it go away. You are lucky to begin to work on it now while you are single. I would also recommend that you look into JONAH, it's not for everyone and it's not a guaranteed cure, but it could definitely help. I just finished reading Arthur's book "Light in the Closet" and I found so much there that resonated with my childhood experiences and with my personality, and just understanding how these elements play into the development of SSA has really helped me cope with it.

Stick around and keep posting, isolation and loneliness is our worst enemy. And Keep on Trucking!

Gevura!

Gesh, i don't think he was knocking the site, he's just saying it's too hard for him to participate.

Mixedup, i feel for you. I understand the frustration of not having a perfect recovery, and of getting burnt out after being on a high of great shteiging in davening and ruchniyus. i too have gone through such ups and downs. But it's important to understand that the struggle is what counts, and every little bit of improvement is a big madreiga. Perfection is not necessary, or expected. Just do what you can, and hand it over to Hashem.

Welcome aboard!

Recognizing the problem is the first step. You are working on it, even if you keep falling you get up and try again. The effort is what counts, you don't need to "win" to be a winner! Keep chipping away at it, it will get easier.
