just an FYI, these sayings are just ideas that resonate with me and i (usually) do not have further intentions with regard to hidden messages or meanings. they are like Swiss cheese, tastes great, but you should not eat a pound in one sitting. take them one at a time.

some erev shabbos ruminations.
Sefarim say that the shabbosim of bein hametzarim are on a higher level than the shabbosim of all year, רב לך שבת בעמק הבכא. one explanation i heard given was because Shabbos has to elevate the whole week, and since the weeks of Bein Hamtzarim are times of such tragedy and destruction the Shabbos has to be especially potent to elevate them.
Another possible explanation is because we know that the Taaneisim and the aveilus that we have today will become yomim tovim in the future when Moshiach comes. Not only will they be Yomim Tovim, they will be days that are even higher and more joyous than the yomim tovim we have now. ירמיהו כג: לכן הנה ימים באים נאם ה' לא יאמר עוד חי ה' אשר העלה את בני ישראל מארץ מצרים כי אם חי ה' אשר העלה ואשר הביא את בני ישראל מארץ צפון ומכל הארצות אשר הדחתים שם
Shabbos is a reflected light from the future, מעין עולם הבא, so it follows that the Shabbosim of these days are of a higher order than other Shabbosim.

it (you know....it....it says, no need for further explanation) also says that shabbas carries with it all the oros of the upcoming week. shabbas hagadol has oros of pesach and shabbas shuva has the oros of yom kippur.
so during the weeks of bein hemetzarim, the weeks carry destruction, but becasue of the destructrion we have rebuild-ation. as it says that mashiach was born on tisha bav, what does it meen? it meens that only once the beis hamikdash was destroyed, only then did we get the oppurtunity of mashiach.
so the shabbasim of bein hametzarim (aspecially shabbas chazon) carry the oros of mashiach! during these weeks shabbasim we taste the oros of mashiach!

just today i saw in Toras Avos quoting Rebbe Moshe Kobriner that the 21 days of bein hamtzarim are parallel to the 21 days from R'H to shmini atzeres. An artist will first make and under-painting of black and afterward paint the picture. So too, the days of bain hamtzarim are the black underpainting before the Yomim Tovim.
