Yes - and you also have YOU - the new you, the real you, a you that is closer to being the true you than ever before.

Somethng I've been mulling over recently - i was going to post it on my thread, but - now it goes on yours.

We have this idea in our head-  a script, really - that in various situations, our response is supposed to be to act out. It might be "when I'm under stress," or "when I'm lonely," or "when I'm triggered." But somehow, we've accepted that it's sorta-kinda OK to act out. Like it's understandable.

And then we need to fight against that assumption.

Instead, perhaps we should go through our minds in our free time; find all those messed-up scripts; and scrap them in favor of new, good ones. This is MY movie, and I think I'm going to call in the best script-writer available - yeah, that would be Hashem. I like his endings the best.

Thanks for sharing this!Very well said!

this is the first of Covey's Seven Habits

We can choose to be reactive to our environment. For example, if the weather is good, we will be happy. If the weather is bad, we will be unhappy. If people treat us well, we will feel well; if they don't, we will feel bad and become defensive. We also can choose to be proactive and not let our situation determine how we will feel. Reactive behavior can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. By accepting that there is nothing we can do about our situation, we in fact become passive and do nothing.

The first habit of highly effective people is proactivity. Proactive people are driven by values that are independent of the weather or how people treat them. Gandhi said, "They cannot take away our self respect if we do not give it to them." Our response to what happened to us affects us more than what actually happened. We can choose to use difficult situations to build our character and develop the ability to better handle such situations in the future.

Proactive people use their resourcefulness and initiative to find solutions rather than just reporting problems and waiting for other people to solve them.

Be careful with that stuff...Not sure you know this (most people don't) but not only is Covey a devout Mormon, I think he was also the head of their "kiruv" division (lehavdil).

Yes, devout mormons can speak the truth, but 1) if you know the guy's a missionary, wouldn't you be suspicious? If there was a really smart missionary giving a greta shiur on shalom bayis, would you go?

There are other issues, as well, which say that although goyim might be able to speak the truth, they can't really know torah. And true avodah pnimiyus is torah.

Removed the quote from  Patton in the  tagline of my profile. I read the that he was a "vicious anti Semite", let him in rot in %$#@ -even though he was  good at fighting the accursed "Germans"

where he is now,he definitely knows the TRUTH as the famous gemara in Gitin says re the wicked Titus may he rot in.....

since the torah contains all knowledge and math is a form of knowledge a goy can never know math.

That's exactly the point - where is the line drawn between chochma and torah? I think that internal, spiritual work vs. external work and meaning is a solid distinction, and that's what I've gotten from my rebbeim. Do you have a better pshat?

Or do you just want to pretend that the gemara doesn't make sense? > (just kidding....mostly! :D)

i posted this in the BM and feel like sharing here to

just wanted to add this to the connection of שמירת הלשון and our struggle.

The Chofetz Chaim in Shmiras Haloshen goes to great lengths to predicate safeguarding the tongue with striving for peace and running away from מחלוקת. he dedicates a few chapters of his holy sefer extolling the virtues and great benefits of  שלום. he bring the following gemara in Gitin 52a:

הנהו בי תרי דאיגרי בהו שטן דכל בי שמשי הוו קא מינצו בהדי הדדי איקלע רבי מאיר להתם עכבינהו תלתא בי שמשי עד דעבד להו שלמא שמעיה דקאמר ווי דאפקיה ר' מאיר לההוא גברא מביתיה:

we learn from this gemara that the YH is drawn to battle "דאיגרי בהו שטן" with those that are argumentative and quarrelsome. to paraphrase the baal duver himself he sorta "lives in their house" of the בעלי מחלוקות.

to me this was a great eye opener -I definitely don't want this dude in my house......

so i say to myself "Noorah keep learning those 2 halachos in sefer Chofetz Chaim with a we  itty bitty teaspoon of shmiras halashon  every day  to to keep the "despised one" away"  ;D ;D ;D

love to all

Dearest Holy Brothers,

I want to share the following with all the holy warriors here on the forum. Recently I was reading the biography of General Eisenhower and was stuck by an amazing fact that can be applied to our struggle and give us tremendous chizuk.

in 1936 after 21 years of service Eisenhower was promoted (with his class) to the rank of -Lieutenant Colonel. At that time he confided to his son that expected to go no higher in the army.

What follows is the actual chronological list of his promotions

   *  March 11, 1941-Colonel

   * October 3, 1941-Brigadier General (1 Star)

   * March 28, 1942-Major General (2 Stars)

   * July 9, 1942-Lieutenant General (3 Stars)

   * February 11, 1943-General (4 Stars)

   * December 20, 1944-General of the Army (5 Stars)

you see my sweet beautiful friends, when there's a war going on, they give out the stars veeery very quickly.

The following is a quote from  General Eisenhower's Order of the Day prior to the D-Day Invasion

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.........I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

.... And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Fiery love to all

Good Shabbos

Noorah
