Of Fischel Update

Hello Everybody!!! I will hereby apprise you Of Fischel's [read: my own] progress on that journey called life.

Fischel underwent a severe bout of insanity this week, which lasted from roughly Friday morning until Sunday night. This bout of insanity, which Yankel, his therapist described as "A severe case of Futuritis", included abandoning the synagogue during Friday night services to stroll aimlessly about for forty minutes, during which Fischel felt as if he would burst into a million pieces. It also included intentionally leaving his apartment during Shabbos on the chance that maybe he might encounter something visually stimulating on the street [he was successful]. During this period Fischel masturbated about five times. Yankel, his therapist maintains that he must learn to live in the moment, and not ponder the fu--- (he does not allow me to use that word which he refers to only as "the F word").

I believe I've worked the first three steps, and must begin on the others- the hard ones. Well well, here I come.

Insects Infesting Blueberries
1. Scales: On the skin of fruit.
It has recently come to our attention that blueberries could possibly be infested
with scales. Infestation varies by season and by source of the blueberries.
New Jersey blueberries currently on the market have been found to be infested
with scales (Putnam scales).
Cleaning Method: As of now we aren’t aware of any effective method to remove the
scales. Grinding the blueberries won’t help.
2. Mites: On the skin and under the crown.
Cleaning Method: While it was once accepted that thorough washing effectively
removes the mites, it appears that those under the crown do not get dislodged even
with multiple rinsing.
3. Thrips: On the skin and under the crown.
Cleaning Method: Several methods of washing were tried, not always successful.
4. Maggots: On the skin and possibly inside the blueberry. Particularly in frozen
blueberries.
Solution
Currently we are not aware of any solution to clean blueberries, due to the
scales present.
In an instance where it has been established that there aren’t any scales
present, the following cleaning process might be effective.
A. Thoroughly rinse blueberries in cleaning solution. Repeat as necessary.
B. After establishing that mites and thrips are removed, remove crown
and rinse.
C. Check a sample for maggots within the flesh. If any maggots are found
in the blueberry, discard the whole package.
NOTE: Frozen blueberries are often heavily infested with maggots on the
skin that are not removed by rinsing, and therefore not recommended.
