“Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.”

“We can’t choose our fate, but we can choose others. Be careful in knowing that.”

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

“Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels, but old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young.”

“We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, Harry, but battle on.”

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”

“It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

“But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”

“Dark and difficult times lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”

“The consequences of our actions are always so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business indeed.”

“It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated.”

“Curiosity is not a sin.... But we should exercise caution with our curiosity... yes, indeed.”

“I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind.”

“They were great men, with huge flaws, and you know what—those flaws almost made them greater.”

And, of course, the most inspirational of them all:
“One can never have enough socks.”

I apologize if this is paraphrased.

All this Dumbledore stuff has got me feeling left out! Just sharing some of my own evil thoughts:

Dumbledore is a modernisha wise man. How bout a quote from the OG fantasy wise wizard.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

--Gandalf
We are not the same people we once were. We are not so locked into our urges that we have no choice. We can choose to give in or choose to win this battle today. We do not want to give in, the pleasure of giving in is false.
With Hashem on our side our victory is inevitable; the only way we can lose is by giving up on playing the game.

I’m not sure if I appreciate being called “modernish “, but I agree that Gandalf is the original Geonishe Wizard.

“Go back to the shadow. You SHALL NOT PASS!!!”

(p.s. I’m well aware that in the book, he says “You cannot pass”, but limaaseh I think the way it came out in the movie is better.)

Just for@youknowwho:
This speaks to so much of how we got here and our relationship with porn in particular, and the Yezer Horah in general:
Your devotion is nothing more than cowardice. You would not be here if you had anywhere else to go." — Voldemort

'We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom,' Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk towards Voldemort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. “Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit —'

'There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!' snarled Voldemort.

'You are quite wrong,' said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the matter over drinks. 'Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness.”

Have I signed my own death warrant by thanking this post?

Better lock my doors and windows tonight, though I doubt that will help much…

I'd say that in our world, the realization that the fear of hell, sin , death, and the avenging, spiteful god we think awaits us distracts us from the idea that there is something worse than the next step into porn's hell and lonliness: The prospect of never fulfilling the potential of healing and the actual living and growth of life. How much more we could do and be is concealed from us by the haze of pain and lack of connection we don't even know we are feeling.

Agreed.
I don't think God is spiteful or avenging at all. But I think that we sometimes create our own hazy, twisted version of hell on this world for our lonely and broken selves, grunting through a meaningless haze.
I will raise my (wand?) glass to looking and climbing into the light, to living , with friends.

Yup. I was speaking with my Rosh Yeshiva once on this topic, and mentioned the idea of a spiteful, avenging god as a childish conception. My Rosh Yeshiva stopped me and said, "It's not a childish conception. It's a Christian conception."

A timely quote from one of fantasy's greatest witches.
