Guarding the Eyes
Proverb 3:19-22
Some thoughts based on a commentary on http://tora.us.fm by Aral Segal Levy
19 The Lord founded the earth with wisdom, established the heavens with discernment.
G-d created this world with wisdom. Every element in this world is filled with wisdom. For example ants; they live in colonies, in a unified social structure, with a ruler and other social classes, they set up farms underground, etc.
Just as G-d created the entire world with wisdom and purpose so too we must live our lives with wisdom and purpose, not spontaneously with no plan. When one looks at immodest internet wisdom escapes him. From the fact that humans must wear clothes I understand that we have an inherent problem with this and it defeats our attempts to see wisdom.
20 With His knowledge the depths were split, and the heavens drip dew.
Not only did G-d create wisdom in the world , He also did not leave at as a theoretical matter. He used it in all aspects of Creation . So too we learn that wisdom is not only for learning and consideration but to use, build and create.
21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes; guard sound wisdom and thought,
Not depart from your eyes, refers to the eyes in a non physical sense; the inner eyes. Indeed the seeing process consists of two stages first receiving the images and then interpreting and judging them as good , not good, helpful , not helpful , healthy , not healthy.
In order for wisdom to not depart from before my eyes, immodest internet is out. I cannot see the wisdom in the world when my mind is influenced by these images.
22 and they shall be life for your soul, and grace for your neck.
By keeping wisdom , knowledge and understanding in front of our eyes (and avoiding things that ruin our inner eyesight) we will be able to guard our plans and goals carefully and be aware of harmful plans towards us.
